L’esclavage dans sa version d’antan, exploitation du travail humain autorisée par la loi, a été officiellement partout aboli - mais sans être complètement éliminé - de même que le statut juridique d’esclave a disparu des législations en vigueur.

Pourtant, des formes d’exploitation plus récentes et inédites accompagnent la globalisation de l’économie: la traite des êtres humains est aujourd'hui un marché extrêmement dynamique, qui se massifie et qui se nourrit pour l’essentiel de l’aggravation des inégalités, de troubles politiques, de situations de crise humanitaire ou/et d’affrontements armés.

C’est donc à l’examen, dans un cadre contemporain, des limites du procès d’émancipation et des divers avatars d’agencements serviles anciens comme des pratiques nouvelles d’assujettissement qu’il est proposé de réfléchir -- et, finalement, à l’évolution théorique des notions d’esclavage et de liberté.


Slavery, in its classical version, as the exploitation of human labor authorized by the law, was officially abolished throughout the world – without being completely eliminated – as was the juridical status of the slave, which disappeared from applied legislation.

Nevertheless, more recent and unprecedented forms of slavery evolve in tandem with the globalization of the economy: the commerce in human beings is an extremely dynamic market that is expands and is fed through the intensification of socioeconomic inequalities, political instability, humanitarian crises and/or armed struggles.

We thus propose to study this phenomenon in terms of both the limits of processes of emancipation and the vicissitudes of past servile arrangements as new practices of subjectivation. Ultimately, this exercise would contribute to the theoretical evolution of notions of slavery and liberty.
