Résumé

Colloque international – Montréal – 17 et 18 mai 2011. Vingt ans après la chute du mur de Berlin, la question de Robert Frost demeure entière : « les bonnes barrières font-elles les bons voisins ? ». Depuis la Grande muraille de Chine, amorcée au IIIe siècle avant J.-C. par la dynastie Qin, le mur d'Antonin érigé en Écosse par les Romains pour appuyer le mur d'Hadrien, le Limes romain, le « mur » est une des constantes – en Orient comme en Occident – qui ont marqué les frontières infra et inter-étatiques. C'est ce que ce colloque, rassemblant des chercheurs de quatre continents, des anthropologues, sociologues, juristes, politologues, artistes va explorer.

Vingt ans après la chute du mur de Berlin, la question de Robert Frost demeure entière : « les bonnes barrières font-elles les bons voisins? ». En effet, depuis la Grande muraille de Chine, amorcée au IIIe siècle avant J.-C. par la dynastie Qin, le mur d'Antonin érigé en Écosse par les Romains pour appuyer le mur d'Hadrien, le Limes romain, ou la barrière du Danevirk, le « mur » est une des constantes - en Orient comme en Occident - qui ont marqué les frontières infra et inter-étatiques. Le « mur » est-il plus qu'un reliquat historique de la gestion des frontières? Dans les années récentes, les murs frontaliers ont proliféré autant le long de la frontière mexicano-américaine, en Israël où la ligne verte a été transformée en un mur de séparation ou en Inde avec la barrière de délimitation avec le Bangladesh d’un côté, et celle avec le Pakistan de l’autre.
