Résumé

L’Institut royal du patrimoine artistique (IRPA) organise un symposium international en l’honneur de son fondateur et premier directeur, Paul Coremans (1908-1965). Le cinquantième anniversaire de son décès est l’occasion unique de jeter un regard rétrospectif sur son étonnante carrière. L’impact de sa vision novatrice et de ses idées en matière de conservation et de restauration des œuvres d’art a eu une importance fondamentale, tant en Belgique qu’à l’étranger. Ses prises de position, sa pensée et son action sur le terrain seront au cœur de cette rencontre internationale.

Argumentaire

Le symposium se concentrera en priorité sur les problèmes de conservation des œuvres d’art en milieu muséal, le faux en art, la protection du patrimoine face aux atteintes du climat ou des guerres, le statut et le rôle du restaurateur, l’importance de la documentation photographique, celle des méthodes de laboratoire et de l’étude interdisciplinaire des œuvres d’art, en gardant toujours en point de mire la figure de Paul Coremans.

Il a marqué de son empreinte quatre grands thèmes, qui seront abordés durant le Symposium :

  • Thème I. La politique des musées concernant la conservation-restauration des œuvres d’art
  • Thème II. La conservation-restauration et l’étude interdisciplinaire des œuvres d’art
  • Thème III. La protection des œuvres d’art en temps de guerre
  • Thème IV. La conservation du patrimoine mondial
