Abstract

This international Conference aims to present the latest research and current debates within the field of Asian studies, to promote transdisciplinary and transcultural exchanges, and to foster international collaborations.

This international Conference aims to present the latest research and current debates within the field of Asian studies, to promote transdisciplinary and transcultural exchanges, and to foster international collaborations.

Panels

Each panel will consist of 3 to 6 speakers (topics are unrestricted).

Participation of PhD students and postdocs is highly encouraged1.

The following three types of panels will be considered:

  • Panels organized under a common topic, with speakers, preferably from more than one country, specialized in different areas or disciplines
  • Panels on a co-authored book or a special issue of journal dedicated to Asia, published after October 2015 or forthcoming
  • Panels on existing research projects (for instance ANR, H2020, JSPS… funded projects). Several panels can be organized for a given research project.

Languages: English and/or French.

There will be no proceedings of this conference, but the Scientific Committee will encourage the publication of special issues by inviting journal editors to the conference.

How to submit a proposal?

Proposals must be submitted online on the conference website (http://congresasie2017.sciencesconf.org), first by coordinators of the panel and then by each speaker participating in the panel,

by 31 October 2016 [2].

Coordinators need to submit: title and summary of the panel (max. 300 words), keywords, list of speakers.

Speakers need to submit: title and abstract of their presentation (max. 200 words).

[1] Speakers must be at least PhD students.

[2] Some individual presentation proposals may be considered. Please submit only by email: communication@gis-reseau-asie.org, with the same information indicated above.

Timeline

  • July 2016: Call for proposals
  • 31 October 2016: Submission deadline

  • 16-20 December 2016: Proposal decision sent via email
  • 01 Jan - 31 March 2017: Coordinators and speakers registration
  • April 2017: Conference program available online
  • May - June 2017: Audience registration
  • 26-28 June 2017: Conference

Registration

Conference registration is open to all (researchers, students and anyone interested in Asian studies).

Registration fees

For panel coordinators or speakers: 80 €, (30 € for students).

This fee includes access to the conference, lunches and coffee breaks.

Audience: the price will be announced later.

Scientific Committee

It is composed of the members of the Scientific Council and the directors of the French Network for Asian Studies (Bayram Balci, Stéphanie Balme, Marta Craveri, Gregory Delaplace, Véronique Dupont, Guy Faure, Nicolas Fiévé, Valérie Gelézeau, Vincent Goossaert, Christophe Jaffrelot, Béatrice Jaluzot, Gregory Lee, Michael Lucken, Rémy Madinier, Edith Parlier-Renault, Thierry Sanjuan, Charlotte Schmid, Pierre Singaravelou, Joëlle Smadja, Benjamin Taunay, Ines Zupanov, Sebastien Lechevalier, Jean-François Huchet).

Organization Committee

It is composed of the management and administrative team of the French Network for Asian Studies (Sebastien Lechevalier, Jean-François Huchet, Claire Le Poulennec, Malgorzata Chwirot, Catherine Bastien-Ventura, Richard Aroquiame), representatives of the CERI (Center for International Studies) at Sciences Po (Karoline Postel-Vinay, Bayram Balci, Stéphanie Balme, Hélène Lebail, Nathalie Tenenbaum), and members of the French Network for Asian Studies Scientific Council (Benjamin Taunay, Ines Zupanov).

The partners of the French Network for Asian Studies include the following 20 institutions: Aix-Marseille Université, CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research), Collège de France, EFEO (French School of Asian Studies), EHESS (School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences), ENAPB (Paris-Belleville School of Architecture), ENS (École Normale Supérieure), EPHE (École Pratique des Hautes Études), ESSEC Business School, FMSH (Fondation Maison des Sciences de L’homme), INALCO (National Institute for Oriental Languages and Civilizations), IRD (French Research Institute for Development), Sciences Po Paris (French National Foundation for Political Science), Sciences Po Lyon (Lyon Institute of Political Studies), Université Jean Moulin, Université Panthéon-Sorbonne, Université Paris-Diderot, Université Paris Ouest-Nanterre La Défense, Université Paris-Sorbonne, l’Université d’Angers. This year, Science Po Paris will host the conference and take a key role in its organization.
