  A Different Perspective for the Atlantic Routes

  Impressions and Exchanges in Transoceanic Journeys from the 16th to the 19th Century

  After more than two years of a preparation that have been careful and laborious, but slowed down and hindered several times by the difficulties that have arisen due to the global pandemic, this project finally gets underway. It intends to go back once more to questioning issues that already count important in-depth studies, like the transoceanic relations between the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries, but also has the ambition of wanting to integrate the results already obtained with new reflections and achievements, and above all with a different point of view.

  Limits of Europeanness? Contested Notions of Difference and Belonging (16th–21st Centuries)

  Fourteenth Annual Conference of the Research Network on the History of the Idea of Europe

  A basic tension inherent in any idea of Europe is that it links some set of “cultural values” to a geographical space on the western fringe of the Asian landmass, but at the same time allows for a significant degree of internal diversity. There is ample evidence for the force of visions of centre and periphery in this context. The variety of ways in which such mental maps have served to underpin notions of difference and belonging in the light of Europeanness are at the core of this conference.

  De l’Amérique au Pacifique : au-delà du mythe du « sauvage »

  Cette rencontre porte sur les représentations des autochtones des nouveaux mondes en France entre le XVI^e et le XVIII^e siècle, du Tupinamba du Brésil au Tahitien. Elle a comme objectif central de comprendre leurs usages, leurs identités et leurs différences, les modèles culturels et les formes littéraires qui leur donnent sens, ainsi que les contextes coloniaux dans lesquels elles ont été conçues.

  Limits of Europeanness? Contested Notions of Difference and Belonging (16th-21st Centuries)

  Fourteenth Annual Conference of the Research Network on the History of the Idea of Europe

  A basic tension inherent in any idea of Europe is that it links some set of “cultural values” to a geographical space on the western fringe of the Asian landmass, but at the same time allows for a significant degree of internal diversity, the boundaries of which are constantly shifting and disputed. There is ample evidence for the continuing force of visions of centre and periphery in this context, both on the territorial and metaphorical level. The variety of ways in which such topographies of cultural values have served to underpin notions of difference and belonging in the light of Europeanness are at the core of this conference. In exploring this multi-faceted field of research, we aim to bring together several disciplines ranging from history, intellectual history and art history over cultural and literary studies to musicology and anthropology.

  Soldiers, prisoners and converts between permeable borders in the Mare Nostrum (16th-18th centuries)

  The COST Action “Islamic Legacy: Narratives East, West, South, North of the Mediterranean (1350-1750)” [CA 18129] is launching a call for a conference “Soldiers, prisoners and converts between permeable borders in the Mare Nostrum (16th-18th centuries)”. The event that we are disseminating is being organised within this project, which as the purpose to provide a transnational and interdisciplinary approach capable of overcoming the segmentation that currently characterizes the study of relations between Christianity and Islam in late medieval and early modern Europe and the Mediterranean. We aim to create a network that will help to provide a comprehensive understanding of past relations between Christianity and Islam in the European context through the addressing of three main research problems: otherness, migration and borders.

  Les mondes pacifiques

  Ce cycle de conférences, proposé par le musée d’Aquitaine et le forum Montesquieu en partenariat avec l’Institut Cervantes et la Maison des sciences de l’homme d’ Aquitaine, sera l'occasion de découvrir le passé précolonial et colonial des peuples d’Océanie, et de s’intéresser aux problématiques plus contemporaines de ce vaste territoire. Une exposition intitulée Mémoires vives aura lieu conjointement au Musée d'Aquitaine. Inaugurée le 15 octobre 2013, elle porte sur les expressions plastiques des Aborigènes d’Australie.

  Du Traité des Pyrénées [1659] à l'Europe du XXIe siècle : un modèle en construction ?

  Cette année a lieu le 350ème anniversaire de la signature du Traité des Pyrénées, qui modifia l’espace catalan comme celui d’autres espaces européens et influença directement le comportement des diplomaties et des États en Europe. Pour cette raison le Musée d’Histoire de la Catalogne et 8 autres institutions (les principales universités catalanes, l’Université de Paris IV-Sorbonne, l’Université de Toulouse- Le Mirail, plusieurs centres de recherche et autres) ont décidé d’organiser un événement visant à ouvrir un large débat sur le sens des frontières à l’heure de l’Union Européenne, fondé sur une réflexion historique, politique et sociale, pour appréhender son utilité et ses multiples réalités. Le colloque s’adresse tant à un public spécialiste qu’à un non-spécialiste, afin de dégager des conclusions qui puissent être utilisées par les chercheurs, mais aussi par les administrations responsables dans une Europe freinée dans son développement et collaboration réciproque.

  L’(a)frontière. Histoire, pensée et paysage

  Le Groupe de recherche manuscrits de l'université autonome de Barcelone, la Mairie de Perpignan et la revue Mirmanda organisent pour la semaine du 5 au 10 mai 2008 les journées « L’(a)frontière. Histoire, pensée et paysage ». Nous faisons un appel à courte communication pour les tables rondes (interventions de dix minutes maximum) des mardi 6 et jeudi 8 mai, avec les thématiques suivantes autour de la frontière : histoire, pensée, paysage, identité, conflits et relations.
