Territories, communities and sustainability: views from Southern Europe
The theme “Territories, communities and sustainability : views from Southern Europe” is a challenging approach to study the links between different areas of knowledge, inviting interdisciplinary outlooks to sociologists and other social scientists interested in environment, development and educational issues. This can be a particularly relevant reflection in the post-pandemic phase of current times, highlighting regional and local features of a global experience. It allows comparing Southern European societies, between themselves but also with other European (and non-European) societies, and therefore, providing insights to better understand each geographic and cultural area.

Social Changes in Contemporary Southeast Asia
Exploring New Forms of Labour Regimes
As social, ethnic or religious, identity or position in the political hierarchy is more often pronounced in Southeast Asian societies, labour is rarely at the centre. In particular, labour does not often appear to be at the root of the formation of inequalities. In reality, the labour factor - including migrant labour - clearly fuels the regional dynamics of growth, and enables trade specialisation just as its mobilisation has, in the colonial past, enabled insertion into the international division of labour. This conference seeks to bring labour back in at the centre of the analysis. Offering a rare opportunity to pay tribute to the main oeuvres and pioneering authors in the field in Southeast Asia, it will open space to recent ongoing research on social changes with respect to labour relations, working conditions, labour norms, and wages.

Violence et crise environnementale
Violence: An international journal

The European Union Statistics of Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC) is a unique data source, due to its country coverage, the large set of socio-economic variables it provides and the possibility to merge household members. EU-SILC is not specifically designed to study demographic issues, but is becoming increasingly popular for demographic analysis. This conference aims to present different ways to use the EU-SILC to study fertility, marriage, and other aspects of demographic interest. The first part of the conference will be focused on the presentation of the dataset and on the quality of demographic measures. The second part will present demographic research based on EU-SILC.

Post-soviet diaspora(s) in Western Europe (1991-2017)
Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, millions of former soviet citizens crossed the national borders in search of better lives in new countries, in what was the biggest migration tide since the end of World War II. These Post-Soviet migrants were diverse in origins, strategies and expectations. They often represented a challenge to the orthodox views of migration processes, since in most cases these flows could not be easily described and analysed following commonly accepted theoretical frameworks. Everybody seemed to be on the move: labour migrants, political refugees, cross-border traders, “tourists” planning to forget their return... and in a short period, they spread all over Western Europe.

The Jewish family in Europe and the Mediterranean from the Middle Ages to our days
The history of the family is at the center of a considerable historiographical renewal that has marked Jewish studies during the last decades. The medievalists were the first to widely study small groups and Jewish family networks in order to better understand the settlement and diffusion of the Jewish population in a territory or their relations with the majoritarian society. Being particularly heterogeneous, the Jewish diaspora is traditionally divided into several groups and factions dependent on ritual practices, geographic provenances and affiliations or legal traditions, more or less influenced by the local contexts the different Jewish populations were settled in.

War hecatomb: effects on health, demography and modern thought (XIXth-XXIst centuries)
Without an exclusive focus on the two world wars and considering that other major conflicts had direct effects in demography, health and in the modern thought, this conference aims to open the historiographic debate in this almost yet unexplored topic, underlining the situation of countries that did not always played a main role in the military conflicts.

16th International Conference on Migration
The 16th International Conference on Migration take place the 23–25th of June 2016 in innsbruck/Austria. This year, the conference will discuss the concept of generation in the context of migration, and will also examine the use of the concept of genera-tions in empirical research and in public discourse. Likewise of central concern here is to view the phenomenon of migration from an inter-generational perspective and to ask to what extent this can contribute to a better understanding of migration.

Visible and invisible: perceiving the city between descriptions and omissions
VI AISU Congress – Macro-Session II - Numbers
The conference will focus on the many ways in which the city has been described, narrated, portrayed and quantified in words, numbers and images over the centuries. Description and representation techniques from ancient and medieval times onwards provide an opportunity to initiate a comparison between different cities and contexts, seeking different ways of perceiving the urban whole in its full complexity. -
