Open Data : Pilier de l’innovation et de la transformation digitale
École d’été internationale de la francophonie en sciences de l’information et des bibliothèques
La Bibliothèque Nationale du Royaume du Maroc, l’École des Sciences de l’Information et la Bibliotheca Alexandrina organisent la 8e École d’été internationale de la Francophonie en sciences de l’information et des bibliothèques de l’AIFBD. Cette nouvelle édition propose une thématique à la pointe de l’actualité « Open data, levier de l’innovation et de la transformation digitale », avec six jours de conférences et de cours pratiques, animés par des chercheurs et des experts internationaux. L’école d’été de l’AIFBD couvrira les dernières avancées dans le domaine de la gestion des données numériques : Open data et open science, Open source intelligence et veille compétitive, humanités numériques, datavisualisation, intelligence artificielle, Machine learning, cryptographie de l’information, etc.

Beyond Search: Opening Up Audiovisual Content for Humanities Studies
In recent years, audiovisual content, with its growing accessibility, rich hidden meanings, and complexity in modality, became a new frontier for research in humanities and computational domains. The quest for properly and meaningfully opening up the variety of information (such as historical, social, affective, and aesthetic) available in the ever-increasing audiovisual materials requires a collective effort from both sides to co-create not only new methods but also new research questions. This 2-day workshop, covering both the theoretical and practical aspects of processing and utilising audiovisual data, provides an entry point and a test field for researchers working on digital humanities, audiovisual content understanding, and HCI to formulate and validate new ideas.

Cette école propose une formation intensive en néo-latin à travers l’étude de textes relevant de différentes disciplines (littérature, philosophie, droit, théologie, sciences). On définit comme « néo-latins » les ouvrages rédigés en latin depuis la fin du Moyen Âge et jusqu’à nos jours mais, dans le cadre de cette école, les périodes visées seront en particulier la Renaissance et l’Âge classique. Cette formation, assurée par d’éminents spécialistes, s’adresse à celles et ceux qui souhaitent s’initier ou améliorer leur compréhension (par la lecture, par la traduction) du latin de ces périodes. Le programme comprend des ateliers de lecture encadrés par des leçons visant à assurer le cadre théorique indispensable à la compréhension des textes choisis.

L’école thématique CNRS Éditer une correspondance d’Ancien Régime à l’ère du numérique (Sète, 13-18 mai 2023) permettra de réunir une trentaine de personnes collaborant à des éditions de correspondances des Lumières, susceptibles d’entrer dans une équipe éditoriale, ou s’intéressant à ce domaine, et des intervenants spécialistes internationaux du livre, de l’édition, des circulations, et des humanités numériques.

Medieval studies and medievalism both focus on the same object, the Middle Ages. Yet their approaches are different. Long separated, medieval studies and medievalism are now challenged to rethink their links in research, teaching and social dissemination of knowledge. The summer school aims to help young researchers to strengthen their understanding of these scientific developments, to position their research effectively, and to develop networks with international researchers. The school, in French and English, proposes lectures by world-renowned specialists, debates, meetings with professionals and practical workshops.

Visualizing archaeological data: GIS mapping and network modeling
Archaeologists use different methods for visualizing their data – for analysis and for presentation. The international spring school will discuss successful ways to visualize these data and challenges and successes in the application of both GIS and network analysis (NA). Through an integration between theory, studies, and tutored practice, we aim to access the two learnt methods to each participant for independent use.

Negazione di un genere, genere della negazione
Summer School Non Fiction
Nella produzione letteraria mondiale si apprezza, da alcuni decenni, la proliferazione di forme di scrittura non finzionale (non fiction novel, docufiction, faction ecc.). La tensione tra realtà e finzione caratterizza da sempre la creazione letteraria, tuttavia il fenomeno è andato incontro di recente a una consacrazione ufficiale con l’assegnazione del premio Nobel per la letteratura alla giornalista Svetlana Aleksievitch. La crescente “fame” di realtà discende da una saturazione dell’immaginario finzionale o, invece, finisce per produrre nuove forme di fiction basate sulla rielaborazione di dati di realtà (documenti storici, cronache, atti giudiziari ecc.)? Una simile domanda investe oggi una serie di questioni teoriche – sociali, cognitive, antropologiche e politiche – prima fra tutte quella sulla delimitazione tra vero, falso e fittizio nell’epoca delle fake news.

Este curso destina-se a estudantes de licenciatura, mestrado e doutoramento, bem como a todos os interessados no estudo da Idade Média, e tem como objectivo introduzir os participantes no estudo dos manuscritos medievais sob várias perspectivas (histórica, codicológica, filológica, linguística). Neste sentido, aplicar-se-ão conhecimentos básicos ao estudo de um caso concreto, o chamado Livro da Noa, para desenvolver capacidades técnicas que permitam a análise de outros textos.

Art Markets : An Integrated Perspective 2020
International Summer School - Antwerp-Brussels July 6-10, 2020
Inspired by the success of the first Art Markets Summer School held in Lyon in June 2019, a second edition of this unique research, training and networking experience will take place in July 2020 in Belgium. A team of international experts from relevant fields such art history, economics, sociology, finance and digital humanities will engage with participants with an academic or professional interest in the global art market. An exciting program combining lectures, workshops and field trips will familiarize the participants with the nature and structure of the art market system. Attention will be given to the theoretical and conceptual frameworks, the various actors in the art market and the available methodological tools to study this fascinating yet complex phenomenon. This immersive experience will inspire and shape new interdisciplinary thinking about the emergence, history and dynamics of art markets around the world.

Digital Humanities Master Class
Cette master class en humanités numériques se tiendra du 19 au 25 avril 2020 au Moulin d’Andé (Normandie). Plusieurs axes sont proposés : données lexicales, édition numérique scientifique (en particulier d’égo-documents) et données d’autorité. Une partie des cours sera consacrée à la maîtrise de l’outillage TEI dans l’ensemble de ces domaines, mais la master class ne se limitera pas à cela. L’ensemble des étapes du workflow d’un projet en humanités numériques sera abordé, de la constitution du corpus jusqu’à la valorisation des résultats. La langue principale de travail est l’anglais. La master class est co-organisée par DARIAH-EU, Inria, l’Institut historique Allemand et Le Mans Université.

Pathos. Forms and fortunes of literary emotions
The goal of this summer school is to explore the role of emotions in literature, namely with respect to the excess of pathos in different forms and times. Pathos has been a fundamental aspect of literature in every epoch. Great poetry has always foregrounded its ability to represent feelings, evoke intense and vivid moods, and elicit readers’ emotions and empathy. On the other hand, the novel – the genre dominating literary modernity – has been o!en accused of indulging in sentimental excess, giving too much space to melodramatic expression. Indeed, in Western cultures, there is a widespread suspicion towards pathos, which has o!en been identified as a shortcoming of literature. Great books – according to a common implicit assumption – can prompt reflection and laughter, but not tears: pathos only concerns lowbrow production. The summer school is an opportunity to engage in a reflection on issues related to pathos in literature in the last few centuries. Different perspectives will be taken into account: specific literary works, reader response theory, cognitive narratology, transmedia adaptation, and publishing history.

Une quinzaine de spécialistes internationaux en histoire de l’art, sciences économiques, droit, sociologie, finance, humanités numériques viendront l’animer dans un esprit d’échange et de partage des connaissances.

ERC Advanced Grant MAP project (Mapping Ancient Polytheisms. Cult Epithets as an Interface between Religious Systems and Human Agency)
The ERC Advanced Grant MAP project (Mapping Ancient Polytheisms. Cult Epithets as an Interface between Religious Systems and Human Agency; 741182; http://map-polytheisms.huma-num.fr1) works on the naming systems for the divine in the Greek and Western Semitic worlds, from 1000 BCE to 400 CE and views them as testimonies to the way in which divine powers are constructed, arranged and involved within ritual. The analysis deals both with the structural aspects of the religious systems and with their contextual appropriation by social participants. Considered to be elements of a complex language, the onomastic channels are related to the gods, therefore providing access to a mapping process of the divine, to its ways of representation and to the communication strategies between men and gods.Within this framework, the MAP Team proposes a Summer School in collaboration with the French Research Centre in Jerusalem (http://www.crfj.org) which covers the project’s themes and tools.

Perspektiven für eine Neubearbeitung der mittelalterlichen jüdischen Geschichte vor 1300
Die Sommeruniversität der Neue Gallia-Germania Judaica für Nachwuchswissenschaftler beschäftigt sich einerseits mit der Frage nach den Herausforderungen und andererseits den medialen Möglichkeiten einer Neubearbeitung der Geschichte jüdischer Orte vor 1300 entlang des Rheins. Anhand von sieben für das jüdische Mittelalter repräsentativen Orten in Frankreich und Deutschland sollen die überholten und gleichzeitig divergierenden Forschungsmeinungen zur jüdischen Geschichte dieser Orte genauer untersucht werden und als Exerzierfelder für das Herausarbeiten sowie das kritische Hinterfragen unterschiedlicher Forschungsansätze dienen.

This afternoon event in Bath (United Kingdom) is aimed at postgraduate students and early career academics interested in Chinese art, whether as a career or as a source for their research. The afternoon will start with a visit to the Museum of East Asian Art Bath. Then three leading professionals in Chinese art in the United Kingdom will give a talk and questions/answers. A workshop will then invite participants to reflect on and prepare for a career related to the arts of China.
