Financing humanitarian aid and development in the Middle East since the mid-19th century

Biological Relationality in Contemporary Science, Theory, and Politics
Relationality as a concept and a framework has become an essential component of contemporary science, theory and politics. Its transversal importance has been evidenced through its qualification as a paradigm shift in the science, as a relational turn in philosophy and theory, and as a new end goal of politics. This conference aims at creating bridges between contemporary science, theory, and politics through focusing on the various ways they approach and integrate biological relationality, understood as the entanglement of living entities with each other at different scales (cellular, physiological, multispecies, ecosystemic, planetary, etc.) and with nonliving entities (pollutants, machines, matter itself, etc.).

5th young researchers Symposium ICODOC
If language can exercise power, power can reciprocally manifest itself through language practices. It is, among other things, from an institutional point of view that the problematic of an “order of discourse” has been approached. Based on the effects of the performativity of language, the symbolic value attributed to it, and the patterns of domination conveyed by language, the research has shown that power is not an inherent characteristic of individuals, but is linked to the communication situations that imply it, especially in the institution. The legitimacy of language practices, far from being natural, is constructed by social norms and rituals which do not, however, erase the agentivity of individuals. These few thoughts raise the following questions: who exercises power and how? In what way(s) is power transmitted through language? How is legitimate language constructed and reproduced?

The economies of nature in medieval and modern periods
The 12e summer school in economic history proposes to tackle the fundamental theme of the use that medieval and modern economies made of nature, i.e. the way in which the elements making up their environment were transformed in order to be inserted into the processes of production, exchange and consumption, thus becoming resources with multiple functions that also fundamentally transformed the living environment of human beings, contributing to the construction of rural or urban landscapes. This is as much a question of epistemology as of empirical knowledge, and the partial overlap between two sub-disciplines, economic history and environmental history, raises questions.

Literature to Politics and Politics in Literature
“Mouvances Francophones” (Vol. 10 N°1/2025)
This issue of Mouvances Francophones (Vol. 10 N° 1/2025) seeks to understand the strategic role of literary works in shaping political action. The focus is on how literature shapes the construction of leadership, political vision, governance strategies and political action, on the one hand, and, on the other, how writers construct their works precisely within political thought, so that the literary text becomes the representation or deconstruction of a political program.

This conference examines the history of naval war losses from eighteenth through the twenty first centuries, forming the second conference of the Naval War Losses group with the parnership of French Navy Center for Strategic Studies. "Loss" here is broadly defined, but focuses primarly on the loss of human lives, forming its own unit of analysis to understand experiences and administration of, as well as adaptation in, naval warfare. This conference encourages analysis of losses in all forms of naval combat, wether at sea, underwater or above water via naval aviation, in cyberspace or beyond, as well as in amphibious campaign. It also encourages consideration of the role of medecine in preventing or mediating naval losses, alongside consideration of broader socio-technologies that shape the rates., recording, and reporting of naval losses.

Conference, symposium - Representation
36th Congress of the Comité international d’histoire de l’art (CIHA)
Matter and materiality are relevant to the conception, production, interpretation and conservation of works of art from all cultures and periods. This theme draws on the very sources of art and opens up the major issues of our time (resource management, sustainability, the environment, new technologies, digital dematerialisation, etc.). Taking an interest in the matter and materiality of art means taking into account economic, environmental, ideological and aesthetic aspects, and examining the transformation of works of art over time, as well as the gestures and hands that shape them.

Telling stories / building worlds. Production and reception outside the West
Journal « Communications » (2026)
We are specifically calling for proposals on the phenomena of reception, and even remodelling, of western fictional worlds in other cultural areas. Above all, we hope to supplement this issue by looking at the variety of worldbuilding strategies: the proven and efficient methods of the Japanese and Korean entertainment industries, successful fictional creations in Indian, Nigerian, Mexican, Turkish or Brazilian studios, and even the production of highly successful fictional worlds in countries less renowned for their capacity for cultural influence. In addition to insights from narratology, media cultures and game sciences, the journal will be attentive to anthropological, sociological, legal and/or economic approaches, based on field data from cultural areas whose worldbuilding practices have been overlooked.

Crises, emerging risks and resilience. Challenges for risk management in a changing world
Revue « Laboreal »
A global scenario marked by multifaceted crises - environmental, health, geopolitical and social - is challenging our ability to rethink real work, reduce risks and support productive activity. In both the public and private sectors, facing an increasingly uncertain environment makes it necessary to develop capacities to anticipate threats and manage critical risks in order to avoid crises and recover when this has not been achieved. Laboreal invites researchers involved in these topics to submit their work and contribute to the publication of this issue. Papers detailing field experiences, which provide access to real work, will be given priority. The articles will be published in one of the journal's two languages (Spanish or Portuguese).

Despite their numerical preponderance among the missionary workforce exercising a Christian apotolate at the end of the Ottoman Empire, women have long attracted less work than men. A rebalancing is in progress, spurred on by the gender studies and extended to the whole Muslim world. We will focus on real encounter and conflict situations, avoiding an essentialist approach to Islam and considering the extreme diversity of the field strategies and practices. This approach will be carried out in equal parts, in a decentering and critical way, far from denominational approaches.

Apocalypse and dystopia in Italian and French literature, 1945 to the present
« Cahiers d’études italiennes, Novecento… e dintorni », n° 42, printemps 2026

Overridden infrastructure. Governance and mobilities in African cities
“EchoGéo” Journal
Over the past decades, many cities have been developing new transport infrastructure and mobility plans. In the Global South, and specifically in Africa, these past years have been synonymous with multiple attempts to modernize mobility systems. Yet those models of mobility, along with the infrastructure that sustains them, are quickly overridden by unexpected uses, new technologies, new vehicles and means of mobility which may contradict these plans. Supposedly new means of transport of people and goods appear, which use recent technology, business models and infrastructure in a way that cannot be predicted by urban planners. Our purpose is to collect contributions that offer different examples of and viewpoints on planning, governance, actual uses of different types of infrastructure and forms of mobility across the African continent.

Épidémies et maladies transmissibles. Des fléaux à travers l’Histoire
Epidemics and Transmissible disease. Scourges throughout History
The COVID-19 pandemic, which has spread worldwide since 2019, originating from China, draws attention to a recurrent phenomenon over the centuries, that of epidemics and transmissible diseases. Firstly, it is important to define the terms of the subject. An endemic disease is one that persists permanently in a given region, such as malaria. An epidemic occurs when a contagious disease affects a large number of people at a specific time. A pandemic occurs when the disease rapidly spreads to a significant portion of the planet.
