Polarized Societies? Challenges for Sociology
XII Portuguese Congress of Sociology
The challenges that polarization brings to sociology now extend to crucial domains of social processes and action, reaching, among others, the arenas of consumption, religions, identities, sexuality, childhood, culture, and science. In this context, the digitization of society and the economy creates and emphasizes dynamics of polarization, while simultaneously opening up new possibilities. Beyond the general impact on social interactions and practices, to what extent are the new social media a factor that promotes expressions of polarization?

Keep It Simple, Make It Fast! (KISMIF) Summer School 2020
The Keep It Simple, Make It Fast! (KISMIF) Conference 2020 will be preceded by a Summer School entitled ‘Not Just Holidays in the Sun’ on 7 July 2020 in Rivoli Municipal Theatre of Porto. The Summer School will offer an opportunity for all interested persons, including those participating in the Conference, to attend workshops directed by specialists in their fields. Our KISMIF Summer School program invites students who are interested in, or currently using, DIY cultures in their research to join us for an exciting and innovative one-day summer school program. The goal of the one-day program will be to encourage discussion and experimentation in the documentation of DIY cultures as much as it will be to encourage a new generation of DIY academics (Punk Ethnographers!) to experiment with digital cinema and performance in their research practices.

Se os seres humanos são o resultado de um processo histórico e não o produto de um plano pré-estabelecido, cabe destacar a importância das ações cooperativas para sua preservação ao longo desse processo. Um percurso em que o trabalho, como um elemento constitutivo de nossa espécie, tem nessas ações um fator decisivo. Como a cooperação tem se dado nas atividades de trabalho ditas formais e informais? Como os modos atuais de gestão e seus sistemas de avaliação e formação têm contribuído para a construção ou enfraquecimento das ações cooperativas no trabalho? Que requisitos são necessários à construção da cooperação?

Queering Friendship | citizenship, care and choice
Intimate Final Conference
Contrary to individualization theories that suggest the impoverishment of human relationships, theories of relationality recognize the increasing centrality of informal networks of solidarity and care. In this debate, friendship plays a fundamental role. The mutual implications of intimacy and citizenship need to be addressed, exploring the extent to which issues of LGBTQ friendship matter (or not) in being recognized as citizens. The centrality of friendship is even more striking when considering personal lives of trans and non-binary people, but also lesbian women, gay men and bisexual people, LGBTQ migrants and other intersecting, vulnerable groups. In particular, the way transgender people actively provide and receive different care between friends offers invaluable contributions to political debates and conceptual discussions around friendship and care as a key aspect of LGBTQ everyday life. Unveiling the richness of the blurred spaces of intimacy, the ways in which LGBTQ people produce alternatives to family-based forms of cohabitation are also of critical importance. LGBTQ lived experiences further contribute to destabilizing the family/friends and public/private binaries, whilst challenging heterocisnormative expectations about who legitimately belongs to the intimate sphere and who remains excluded and/or invisible.

Web of knowledge – A look into the past, embracing the future
The congress aims to bring together researchers and scientists from different backgrounds intersecting with the social sciences revealing the visible and invisible networks. By fostering the exchange of knowledge and experiences in the study of the past, the congress expects to lay the framework for the present day science on which to map the future web of knowledge. This congress intends to meditate on science, and to understand how it is being constructed nowadays. Our focus is to approach questions such as: How do we do/communicate science, immediate science, open access, intellectual property, bioethics, cultural heritage, among others.

In this panel we are both interested in analyses of biomedical research and of illness experiences.

Coordenados por Michel G. J. Binet (ISSSL-ULL) e Stéphane Rullac (IRTS Paris Île-de-France), estes números especiais, que beneficiarão de uma circulação internacional reforçada nos mundos lusófono e francófono, têm por foco principal a investigação-ação colaborativa, perspetivada como paradigma da investigação em Serviço Social.

This workshop is about interconnections between, and in space and time. But it also sees interconnections at other levels: between modelling and analysing, between theory and practice, as well as between humanities and computing.
In the humanities, a close look at networks and relationships, whether formal or informal, personal or social, of information or of knowledge, of transportation or of communication, has always been an important subject of study and, at the same time, a powerful analytical process. In computer science, the study of networks and of methodologies for analysis and visualization of these relationships is nowadays an increasingly well understood and practiced area of knowledge. In both the humanities and computer science, researchers are well aware of the dynamic nature of data and knowledge when viewed through the lenses of space and time.

A revista Antropológicas está a aceitar propostas de artigos para publicar no próximo número que terá como tema a problemática da metodologia etnográfica e antropológica. Os manuscritos devem ser submetidos na página http://revistas.rcaap.pt/antropologicas/login até ao dia 28 de fevereiro de 2013. O nº 13 da terá como tema a problemática da metodologia etnográfica e antropológica, pois desde a afirmação académica do seu campo do saber, a prática etnográfica e a escrita antropológica mereceram vários debates, tanto pela originalidade da metodologia, como pelo rigor científico exigido aos seus profissionais. Entre as ciências sociais, a antropologia foi aquela onde a discussão teórica sobre a sua própria razão de ser exigiu uma maior capacidade crítica, ao colocar em questão as suas bases metodológicas.
