Exploring Historical War Experiences through Digital Sources and Methodologies
Historians have increasingly striven to understand war from the standpoint of human experience in recent decades. The emotional, psychological, and deeply traumatic experiences of people caught up in violence have become focal points of historical research, particularly concerning conflicts like the World Wars of the 20th century. This workshop discusses the study of war experiences through digital sources and methods.

The Stuff of Tradition: Materiality and Media in Folklore Studies
In the forthcoming 11th international conference of Young folklorists, we seek to examine the complex relationship of folklore studies with materiality by juxtaposing it with recent re-orientations to media and (re)mediation. The conference aims to explore various materialities inherent to our data and methodology – whether obvious or ambiguous – and rethink their position in our field. We invite scholars to discuss both academic and vernacular notions on the transmission of tradition and its social and material embeddedness. We also encourage methodological discussion on how folklore scholars are themselves bound by various (new) media and technologies of documentation, archiving, and presentation.

Living under Empires: A View from Below
What have Mesopotamian Empires ever done for their people? Tracking the macro in the micro
In this workshop, we aim to take the view from below and investigate in what way imperial dynamics may have affected the lifeways of people in their territories. The basic questions of this workshop are: How did the empires of the Ancient Near East affect the lives of ordinary people in their realm? To which extent was rural life and life in smaller towns permeated by imperial agents and policies, hence by imperial dynamics?

Culture(s) in Sustainable Futures
Theories, practices and policies
Is culture the fourth pillar of sustainability alongside the ecological, economic and social aspects? How does culture act as a catalyst for ecological sustainability, human well-being and economic viability? What would our futures look like if sustainability was embedded in the multiple dimensions of culture? This landmark conference explores the roles and meanings of culture in sustainable development. The new ideas generated in the conference will inform and advance understandings of sustainability with cultural studies and practices, and vice versa.
