This issue seeks to critically address power structures in audiovisual (re)productions in and from Latin America and discuss how these play a role in the societal construction and representation of individual and collective identities, the ‘us’ and the ‘other’. By doing so, it aims at understanding how these representations – and broader discourses associated therewith – can be critically examined through media productions (cinema, television, radio, photography etc.) and their use as historical sources.

The editorial team of On_Culture, would like to draw your attention to the call for abstracts for issue #13 of On_Culture (Summer 2022) on “In_Visibilities”. This On_Culture issue will approach questions of in_visibility from a power-analytical and ideology-critical perspective. Avoiding a binary opposition, visibility and invisibility are conceptualized as two mutually entangled concepts. By using the underscore in the orthography (in_visibility), we want to highlight the processual continuum between the two concepts and create a space for ambiguities that put the visibility concept under re-negotiation.

This conference goal is to foreground movement as a particular social dynamic and to consider mobility and circulatory regimes, trails, routes and roads as the “connective tissue” within various historical and political contexts and against the backdrop of rooted cultures and identities inscribed in particular landscapes. We wish to explore how these circulations relate to cultural practices, imaginaries and materialities and how they are socially transformative. What can the study of circulation tell us about the Himalayas, their social and spatial dynamics ? Does the Himalayan social fabric produce peculiar circulatory regimes and pathways ? Ce numéro thématique de la revue Ambiances vise à mettre en lumière des enjeux partagés et des passerelles possibles entre des acteurs qui privilégient usuellement des échelles d’intervention différentes. Nous invitons à des réflexions interrogeant les enjeux et les méthodes de fabrique de l’espace habité dans sa verticalité en réintroduisant la question du sous-sol non comme une sous-face, mais comme une interface vivante et évolutive. Le dossier fait appel à des chercheurs, praticiens du monde opérationnel et concepteurs de différents horizons disciplinaires à partager leurs travaux sur la question des sous-sols et tant ambiances, fabriquées, pratiquées, et expérimentées par l’humain en mettant en avant des études de cas, des expériences in situ et des nouveaux outils méthodologiques. The Bible and Migration

Open Theology invites submissions for the topical issue “The Bible and Migration”, prepared in collaboration with the conference The Bible on the Move: Toward a Biblical Theology of Migration, held at Fuller Theological Seminary in January 2020. This special issue asks how cutting-edge biblical scholarship should inform conversation about and action relating to migration in the twenty-first century, bridging the gap between biblical studies, theology, and activism. Articles should examine how the biblical texts reflect diverse migrant experiences, as well as ways in which these texts reflect theologically on migration and appropriate responses to it among migrants and host communities. Articles may also critically interrogate the Bible’s use in arguments over migration and migrants’ reception by host communities.

Bearing Witness to Traumatic Experiences: Cultural Productions of Uyghurs in Exile

PhD position in Asian Studies

This Ph.D. position is funded by a MIS (Mandat d’Impulsion Scientifique/ Incentive Grant for Scientific Research) project: “Bearing Witness to Traumatic Experiences: Cultural Productions of Uyghurs in Exile”. Uyghurs are a Turkic-speaking people based at the border of Central Asia and the north-western part of China. Massive internments and arrests of hundreds of thousands of Uyghurs have taken place in the region since 2016, including the Uyghur elite. In these conditions, centers of the cultural production of the Uyghurs have shifted from their native land to the diaspora spread across the world. This project looks at Uyghur diasporic cultural production that aims at drawing the world’s attention and bearing witness to the various abuses perpetrated at home by the Chinese government. The whole project analyses selected poems, short films, video clips, and dance and music performances to tackle new transmedial forms of testimonies in the Uyghur case.

The Boucher Prize is awarded in honor of long-time members and active supports Mary Alice and Philip Boucher, and recognizes the best book on the French colonial experience from the 16^th century to 1815. The Heggoy Prize is awarded in honor of FCHS founding member Alf Andrew Heggoy, and recognizes the best book on the French colonial experience from 1815 to the present.
