  The Mary Alice and Philip Boucher Book Prize and the Alf Andrew Heggoy Book Prize

  The French Colonial Historical Society awards two book prizes annually for the best books on French colonial history published during the preceding year. The Boucher Prize is awarded in honor of long-time members and active supports Mary Alice and Philip Boucher, and recognizes the best book on the French colonial experience from the 16^th century to 1815. The Heggoy Prize is awarded in honor of FCHS founding member Alf Andrew Heggoy, and recognizes the best book on the French colonial experience from 1815 to the present.

  Beyond Borders - Borders, Democracy and Security

  Beyond borders supports research about borders and boundaries in past and present times. It promotes interdisciplinary exchange in the social sciences and humanities. The Call for Applications 2020 is open till January 15, 2021 and focuses on “Borders, Democracy and Security”. The ZEIT-Stiftung offers three types of Ph.D. scholarships: Start Up Scholarships for research project development, Ph.D. Scholarships for up to 3 years and Dissertation Completion Scholarships. We invite applications from Ph.D. students worldwide studying borders and bordering phenomena in different regions of the world. Both empirical research based on extensive fieldwork and projects centered on theoretical reflection are eligible for support. Innovative and challenging research questions as well as comparative approaches are highly welcome.

  Bridging, Bonding and Bordering: Migrant Strategies and State Policies

  Research Training and Funding for Doctoral Students

  This program will assist students to prepare for dissertation research on topics related to Bridging, Bonding and Bordering: Migrant Strategies and State Policies through participation in a conference of field experts, two training workshops, and summer research under the mentorship of Professors Virginie Guiraudon (CNRS, Political Science) and Rubén Hernández-León (UCLA, Sociology). The conference and workshops will assist students to map and draw upon cross-disciplinary and transatlantic research on immigration in Western Europe and the United States; define their own research questions; assess the utility of various research methods; undertake exploratory summer research; and prepare cogent and fundable doctoral research and funding proposals.

  The Bucerius Ph.D. scholarship program in migration studies “Settling Into Motion” offers up to eight scholarships for Ph.D. theses addressing migration in changing societies. For 2010, research applications on “Migration, Diversity and the Future of Modern Societies” are especially welcome.
