    Gender and education amid Covid-19

    Impacts, responses, and prospects

The present conference aims to examine the devastating impacts of Covid-19 pandemic on gender equality and quality education, two sustainable goals identified by the UN, and the kind of responses which were triggered as forms of activism, self-expression, and creation of new meanings. Furthermore, it explores the prospects which may be unlocked for future professionals through learning different skills and values which foster equal opportunities for both genders in leadership and in the labour market, eventually and hopefully resulting in an equitable, unbiased, and fair labour culture for all.

Confronting the Crisis of Expertise: Historical Roots and Current Challenges

In the post-Covid-19 world, the problems already experienced by democracies with regards to social divisions and diminishing trust in public institutions are exacerbated by a growing epistemic crisis concerning the simultaneous need and contestation of expertise for public policy purposes. The existence of uncertain statistical data, the search for past models in dealing with hidden enemies, the public attempts to translate scientific knowledge and to make sense of decision-making processes, all point to a persistent need for advanced skills for working with governance data and discourses.       Our course enhances participants’ skills in analyzing the incorporation of techno and scientific knowledge into public governance and discourses. The summer school seeks to provide the tools and categories to critically assess systemic responses in times of both contested expertise and scientificization of politics.

    Race and Capitalism

There has been a recent resurgence of debates about “racial capitalism,” and, more broadly, a revival of the conjunction of anti-racist and anti-capitalist critiques. This event will bring together four preeminent scholars whose work engages the question of how processes of racialization have shaped capitalist social orders both in Europe and transnationally, and how capitalist social structures have, in turn, shaped processes of racialization.

Digitalisation and creation of alternative monetary and financial spaces

This workshop proposes to explore the intersection between digitalisation and alternative monetary spaces developed in response to the sustainable development objectives. The Covid 19 pandemic has accentuated the challenges posed by digitalisation and highlighted its contradictory characteristics. On the one hand, the phenomenon allows, thanks to its technical potential, the valorization of local initiatives; on the other hand, it can favor forms of dehumanization and predation, likely to undermine the collective trust on which these spaces are based. The workshop proposed to address the contradictory nature of digitalisation processes from the perspective of their potential to strenghten and/or challenge economic and social cohesion.

3rd International Conference on Digital, Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Financing

Digitalization enables the emergence of new entrepreneurs who, unlike their predecessors, can use digital technologies and online communities and are able to manage the key processes needed to create/launch a new venture moving from idea generation and opportunity recognition, to intellectual property protection, production, marketing and distribution. Entrepreneurship research in the digital economy also needs to be expanded to include literature from other disciplines such as political science, information systems and industrial organization. We invite contributions that will help to better assess, analyze, and theorize how digital innovations emerge and create value, how these innovations affect the structuring of markets and business models, how to implement and finance them.

Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Climate and Biodiversity Crises

Historical evolutions, current realities, and future pathways for socio-ecological transformation

Over the past centuries, the industrialisation of Western societies gradually impacted nature, and environmental problems increased with globalisation during the last decades. As a consequence, we are now experiencing major crises which are linked with each other: biodiversity is disappearing faster and faster, and global warming is escalating, not only causing unprecedented damage to the Earth, but also unequally and unfairly affecting different parts of the world. In this context, our summer school proposes to bring together an interdisciplinary range of researchers interested in the various implications and interconnections of the climate crisis and the biodiversity crisis.

Multi-risk management in the agricultural sector

Review of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Studies (RAFE) is seeking papers that contribute to a better understanding of multi-risk in the agricultural sector: what are the new management strategies in front of multi-risk in the agricultural sector? How are they carried out? Are we facing a change of paradigm in the way risks are managed at the farm and institutional level: should we rather speak of multi-risk management or adaptation to permanent shocks? More theoretically, how does a “multi-risk” approach renew the traditional conception of risk?
