Migration in Belgium: Epistemological issues, History, Public action and Mobilisations

This study day aims to bring together researchers from different social science disciplines (anthropology, law, economics, geography, history, philosophy, psychology, political science, sociology, etc.) working on migration issues in Belgium. In a context where migration phenomena are regularly at the forefront of political and media news (“reception crisis”, border management and control, citizen mobilisations, etc.), the aim of this study day is, on the one hand, to review the progress of research in the various social science disciplines in this field, and, on the other hand, to refine academic analyses through a multidisciplinary dialogue. This meeting thus intends to contribute to a better understanding of the migration phenomenon in Belgium.

    Conference, symposium - History

From professions to corporatism in Brabant cities (Middle Ages - 20th century)

    Opening the workshop

A century of artist workshops in Belgium (1830-1930)

Resources and uses of archives of military justice

Francis I and the Artists of the North (1515-1547)

As an extention of the events of 2015 celebrating the 500th anniversary of the accession of Francis I (1 January 1515) and the victory at Marignan (13-14 September 1515), the symposium will focus on the ties between the "grand roy Françoys" and the North. Whereas the exchanges between Francis I and Italy have attracted much attention, the King’s relations with the old Southern Netherlands, as rich and complex, have not been carefully studied. The symposium "Francis I and Artists of the North (1515-1547)" aims to fill this gap by considering the interest of the King of France in artists and musicians from the old Southern Netherlands and their works.

    Conference, symposium - Religion

When a religion comes to an end… Political and social factors in the demise of religions

Dealer, collector, critic, publisher…: The « animateur d’art » and his multiples roles

Pluridisciplinary research of these disregarded cultural mediators of the 19th and 20th centuries

The first goal of our symposium is to enlighten the role of the animateur d’art in the development of the arts. We hope that this scientific gathering would help us specify this first formula of the cultural actor: “The animateur d’art is an amateur who actively participates in the defense of the arts and in the stimulation of the artistic creation in a certain period. He puts his numerous networks to work in order to spread ideologies and aesthetics through the cultural environment and the society. He is a key figure positioning himself as a mediator between the different art worlds – the plastic arts as well as between the different agents of the cultural environment. His work consists in building bridges between the artists and his own cultural environment in order to ease the reception of the works and to promote a peculiar aesthetics”.
