Art in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

This second Art in the Age of Artificial Intelligence (3AI) observes that an increasing number of artworks are now inspired by or produced with advanced technologies mainly influenced by generative AI, deeply infused at the very heart of the artworks. Such development interrogates the notion of Art, including the artist and the definition of artistic approach. It also questions how artworks are discovered, exchanged, collected, and preserved. The advent of increasingly advanced digital technologies provokes profound philosophical and ethical inquiries. These ongoing transformations across artistic, cultural, economic, political, and professional realms seem to be long-lasting, with implications that have started to resonate within society.

L’archivage numérique dans le monde arabe

The first-ever International Conference on Digital Archiving in the Arab World (DA|AW), held in Abu Dhabi in 2019, organized to spark off a series of conferences on the subject. Four years later, and following a global epidemic, it is time to reassemble for exploring and move ahead with the practises, experiences, and challenges of digital archiving in the Arab World. The inaugural colloquium/conference examined the issues of data preservation in the Arab world and eventually resulted in a publication release that continues to serve as a reference for researching the subject today (Bayoumi & Oliveau, 2020). At DAAW|2024, we aspire to address it through the more focused standpoint of the digital management and preservation of data and documents, without foregoing a broader reflection, concerning both historical and future documents and data in danger whether physical or natively digital.

    Beyond Digital Humanities

How computational methods are reshaping scholarly research

In the last decade the Digital Humanities (DH) movement has swept the academic landscape in the United States, Europe and China, DH has become a new mantra. However, we argue that the real transformative power transcends the broad DH label, rooted in the depth and specificity of computational methodologies. By critically examining examples drawn from disciplines like history, literature, and sociology, we highlight how computational methods offer both macroscopic and microscopic insights, reshaping the very essence of research.

Constellations of Images: “The Grande Conversion” in Cultural Archives

The digital era has witnessed a significant transformation in the accessibility and availability of cultural content in various formats, encompassing a wide range of art forms such as visual arts, cinema, literature, music, photography, and architecture. This shift from analogue to digital, referred to as the “grande conversion” by Milad Doueihi, continues to have a profound impact on our engagement with these creative expressions. Spinning off the new book Les Devenirs numériques des patrimoines (The Digital Futures of Heritage), this event carefully curated a series of talks drawing on a variety of disciplinary perspectives and examples, showcasing the progress and advantages of working with the ever-changing technologies.

Reimagining Annotation for Multimodal Cultural Heritage

Reimagining Annotation for Multimodal Cultural Heritage is an international conference that will be held in Rennes, France from 7th-9th February 2024. The conference looks to explore questions around digital annotation in the humanities and the GLAM sector (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums) across three primary axes: tools, methods and projects. We seek to discover the extent of digital tools for the navigation of multimodal document networks, the creation of data-driven interfaces and the implementation of close and / or distant reading techniques; the epistemological questions that these tools allow to emerge and how research in the humanities is changing; and projects that make use of these tools.

Langues, littératures et consolidation de la paix

Guaranteeing a peaceful climate in a restricted or relatively large space is a challenge, which is why it is almost impossible to list in an exhaustive manner the mechanisms likely to maintain harmony between humans and/or between Nations, as these means are sometimes beyond suspicion. At the same time, it would be tedious to want to list the factors likely to break the tranquility, the state of cohesion, and to generate misunderstandings, conflicts of various kinds and, finally, war. So, how can linguistics and linguistic dynamics (in all forms and manifestations, including literature) be at the origin of social/interhuman, inter-intra-community, inter-State, inter-religious tensions...? And, how could they resolve the said crises and conflict situations? Which linguistic dynamics emerge from these? This is the challenge of this project.

Research on Digital, Media and Information Literacy - Doctoral Summer School

The ReDMIL 2022 doctoral summer school aims at contributing to the convergence between digital, media and information literacy research by bringing together researchers from all three communities, to foster the scientific debate and explore connections between them. The summer school is an international training program that will alternate between framing presentations by senior researchers and the in-depth discussion of emerging research by participating PhD students. The goal of this summer school is to allow PhD students engaged in the field of digital literacy, media literacy or information literacy to benefit from the expertise of renowned researchers in their field, to present their own research to an audience composed of these experts, to work collectively to the enhancement of their research work with other participants, to improve their knowledge of the research undertaken by their peers.
