    Folger Institute Fellowships

    Long-term, short-term and artistic Fellowships (2024-2025)

    Each year the Folger Institute awards research fellowships to create a high-powered, multidisciplinary community of inquiry. This community of researchers may come from different fields, and their projects may find different kinds of expression. But our researchers share cognate interests in the history and literature, art and performance, philosophy, religion, and politics of the early modern world. The Folger Institute at the Folger Shakespeare Library offers long-term fellowships for scholarly research and short-term fellowships for both scholarly and artistic research. For the 2024-25 year, applicants may request virtual, onsite, or hybrid residencies.

    Within the project “Pre-Modern Metropolitanism”

    Opening of nine Graduate Assistant / PhD student jobs in the Research Training Network “Pre-Modern Metropolitanism” at the University of Regensburg. The Research Training Group 2337, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), consists of scholars from the fields of History, Art History, Legal History, Social and Economic history, Early Ecclesiastical History and Patristics, Classical Archaeology, Liturgical Studies, Romance linguistics, Political Science, English Literary and Cultural Studies, and further other associated disciplines and cooperation partners. The Research Training Group focuses on questions concerning the constitution, representation, impact, and transformation of metropolitan cities from the Greco-Roman antiquity towards the threshold of industrialization.

    KADOC – the Interfaculty Documentation and Research Centre on Religion, Culture and Society at KU Leuven – yearly awards one fellowship to an international scholar (with max. 10 years of scientific seniority after PhD) working on topics related to its main research lines. This programme offers the selected candidate the opportunity to work for two to three months in its collections, to establish new scholarly links, and to broaden her/his expertise in close interaction with Leuven scholars and heritage professionals. In our 2021-call we would like to express a particular interest in candidates in the domain of socio-religious history who, through their research, demonstrate the historiographic potential of what is commonly called ‘religious history from below’.

    Sangalli Institute Award for the Religious History 2018

    The "Sangalli Institute Award for the Religious History" (Florence, Italy), in collaboration with the Department of University and Research of the Municipality of Florence  offers no. 2 awards for the publication of unpublished and peer-reviewed monographs, in Italian, Enghish and the other principal European languages, presented by young researchers and concerning the religious history from Middle Ages to the Contemporary Era. The essays will appear in a dedicated book series of the Firenze University Press. Are welcomed the applications by all Ph.D. scholars who have obtained their doctorate no later than five years at the date of the publication of this call for publications.

    Doctoral researchers for the project Presbyters in the late antique West

    Institute of History (University of Warsaw) is looking for two doctoral researchers who will join the team working on the project Presbyters in the late antique West (200-700 AD) run by Robert Wiśniewski. Their job will consist in collecting the evidence for a prosopographical database and conducting, within the project, their own research which will lead to completing the doctoral dissertation (in 4.5 years). The successful candidates will be enrolled in the doctoral programme and awarded a scholarship of 2000 Polish Zloty per month (initially for 2 years, extendable for another 2.5 years).
