International Conference on Sexual Diversity Studies in Ibero-America: Desires, Spaces and Identities

Artistic-cultural practices, productions and epistemologies from the edges: voices and decolonial stakes of feminisms and sexual dissidences

This symposium aims to make visible, analyze and reflect on border cultural practices and productions. In the geographic and symbolic borders stand identities and resistances of those “othernesses” built by colonialism and by that “western conscience”. In a decolonizing effort on the object-subject in artistic-cultural production, feminisms and sexual dissidences in the Ibero-American and diasporic space transform “the personal into the political” through artivist practices and the appropriation of public and virtual space, proposals from performance, manifesto, street art, literature, weaving, scenic arts and music, among other forms of expression that deconstruct the hegemonic vision.

Interdisciplinary Franco-Latin-American perspectives on challenges related to the environment

Since the 1970s, environmental issues have continued to grow. Indeed, we have moved from a localized perception of environmental damage to a global understanding of the risks associated with climate change and their impacts on socio-ecosystems. In order to better respond to the challenges and stakes of the environmental crisis that is impacting us, it seems appropriate to share and make known the experiences and theories developed from different continents, cultures and geographies in order to enrich our object of study. In this regard, this Congress, which will be held from October 23 to 27, 2023 in Costa Rica, proposes to offer perspectives on multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary studies on environmental issues: climate change, biodiversity, resilience, global health, payments for environmental services, etc.

Revue « Verbum et Lingua : Didactique, langue et culture »

The editorial team of Verbum et Lingua has determined that the thematic focus of this publication will be “Cultural mediation in language teaching: possibilities, challenges or mission impossible?”. Cultural mediation is understood as the search for understanding and comprehension between linguistic and cultural differences of different communities. The teaching of languages and cultures plays a role in cultural mediation through pedagogy, linguistics, intercultural studies, research and methodological tools that serve this purpose. Therefore, the journal invites specialists in cultural mediation and linguistic intermediaries, interested in facilitating the teaching of languages and cultures as a bridge to a better understanding between them, to participate with article proposals.

    Afro Literature Conference

Religion in movement. New perspectives in the study of religious History

While the role of the Catholic Church under the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939) and the Dictatorship (1939-1975) remain one of the most bitterly contested aspects in public and academic debates, in recent years, the study of religious history has become an increasingly respected as an expanding field of research in Spanish historiography. The foundation of the Asociación Española de Historia Religiosa Contemporánea (AEHRC - Spanish Association of Contemporary Religious History) in 2016 has greatly contributed to this development. The present conference aims to celebrate and continue these efforts. For this reason, the AEHRC would like to invite researchers to join us in the prospect of advancing the state of the art in our field by a) critically evaluating the successes and limitations of current and new perspectives in the study of contemporary religious history; and, in particular, b) by reassessing the processes of secularisation and religious reconfiguration that have shaped the Spanish and Hispanic cases.

XVI Jornadas Complutenses de Arte Medieval

In its sixteenth edition, the Conference will be devoted to highlighting the role of Women in medieval artistic creation. This role will be understood in the broadest possible way: from patronage to creation and reception, as a channel for power strategies, a transmitter of science or a generator of specific iconographic types, regardless of their active or passive role in all this creative dynamic. Women and Gender will serve as the priority vectors to articulate the scientific content of Conference sessions.

Chile 1970-1973 in a transnational key. From the “Chilean road to socialism” to the military dictatorship

To the rescue of minority groups. Gender, migration and racism in heritage and museums

The gradual transformation experienced by museums in the last few years has fostered the incorporation into exhibition spaces of social minorities hitherto barred from them due to their social invisibility, exclusion and marginalisation. Occidentalism and European-centred perspectives gave rise to decontextualised, distorted and racial exhibition criteria constructed from a biased view of otherness.

Learning assessment in relation to both national and foreign languages and culture

Electronic journal “Verbum et Lingua” of the University of Guadalajara

Verbum et Lingua: Didáctica, Lengua y Cultura welcomes submissions for its special July 2022 issue on learning assessment in relation to both national and foreign languages and cultures. This complex area of knowledge, characterized by a plurality of approaches, tries to respond to different contexts, needs and realities. With the publication of language reference frameworks for the teaching, learning and assessment of languages and cultures, such as the European Common Framework (CEFR) and American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), a new vision of assessment following strictly defined guidelines has been enacted. At present, research in this field has been carried out within institutional frameworks. However, reconceptualization in the assessment of language learning positions it in much more complex contexts as it takes into account technological distance and hybrid teaching tools.

National Liberation, World Revolution: Anti-Colonial Networks and the Origins of Global Communism, 1914-24

The end of the First World War and the Russian Revolution inaugurated a period of unprecedented global effervescence. Europe has often been regarded as the epicentre of these agitations and the Moscow-centred international communist movement as their protagonist. However, the upheavals of these years galvanised a variety of actors, including anti-colonialists and anarchists, as well as activists linked to the Communist International but who retained significant ideological and political autonomy. This was especially true in the pre-Stalinist period. Unrest spread to the Americas, Africa, and Asia too, where nationalism intersected in complex ways with class conflict. This conference seeks to map this complexity and its long-term significance, with special focus on non-European places and actors.
