Conviviality and Sociability in the Long Eighteenth Century: Restoration to Romanticism
Christoph Heyl (Univ. Duisburg-Essen) and Rémy Duthille (Univ. Bordeaux-Montaigne) are continuing the long tradition of the Landau-Paris Symposia on the Eighteenth Century, welcoming both established scholars of the field and early career researchers. The symposium focuses on the literature and culture of the British Isles of the period, but it is also open to topics relating to the British colonies, France, Germany, and further afield. The conference will include a panel of emerging scholars who are working on their PhD projects or are planning to begin a PhD project in the near future.

The Becoming of the Congo: Collaborating, Imagining, Changing
This new edition of the Congo Research Network (CRN) international and transdisciplinar Congress focuses on the concept of becoming: the becoming of research on/around the Congo (new paths and new links between knowledge andepistemologies, new means of communication (ICTs, new media, videos) and agents - academics, artists, writers, cultural actors, journalists and bloggers, activists and others); the becoming of Congolese culture (new places of creation and exhibition, new ways ofsharing/transmitting knowledge and cultural practices); the becoming of the country and the dynamics of mobility and stability not only in Congo, but also in Africa and the world (anthropological, climatic, epistemic, social, health and economic changes); the becoming of politics, between trauma, memory and resilience.

Transmediatization and transwriting
During the last decades, new concepts revolving around mediality and intermediality entered the arena of theoretical debates concerning the links between cinema and the established arts. Our conference aims to reassess two of these terms, namely transmédiagénie (transmediatization) and transécriture (transwriting). André Gaudreault and Philippe Marion’s concept of transécriture distances itself from the old paradigm of “fidelity” toward the original text and rethinks adaptations in accordance with the specific semiotical reconfigurations of the target medium. Transmédiagénie, on the other hand, is a wider notion defined by Philippe Marion as “a narrative’s capacity for star-like expansion, circulation and transmedial propagation.”

Big Tech, Raiders or Gatekeepers of Democratic Interplay?
This new issue of the Cahiers Protagoras will be dedicated to the discretionary context in which political actors are confronted to new censorship rationales. Contributors are invited to study the relationship of dependency of a political communication increasingly vested into social media, confronted to the opacity of moderation policies and the risk of permanent ban from related platforms. Equally, we encourage researchers to explore how this “politically motivated censorship” enforced by Big Tech catalyses the fragmentation of online public debates and the emergence of dissenting echo chambers.

Emerging Terminologies and Specialised Translation
Issue 1/2024 of the journal Studia Universitatis Babe ş-Bolyai, series Philologia will be focused on interdisciplinary approaches to emerging terminologies and the problems of specialised translation in these thematic and textual contexts. This issue aims to deepen the analysis of and expand debates in the new fields of terminological investigation of lesser-researched specialised domains of the contemporary world, as well as in already existing specialised domains which are enriched by emergent concepts, based on their corresponding neological needs.

History of prehistory in Palestine – Israel
International workshop
Our workshop aims to shed light on the various actors and institutions who shaped the field of prehistory from the 19th century until our days. They will allow us to grasp the establishment and development of prehistoric international and local networks on the longue durée. We encourage participants to address the socio-political and cultural contexts in which prehistory was practiced and knowledge produced. Many answers to the above questions and topics of research may be uncovered in personal, institutional, and administrative archives, while others are revealed in excavation reports. This brings us to the last section of our workshop: what sources for the history of Prehistory and how can they be used? Has the writing of a renewed history of the discipline affected today’s research and how?

Hybridity: Text, Translation, Teaching
In our globalized world, life in or with several languages has become a socially accepted fact and is continuously gaining momentum, ranging from simple code switching to such complex and systematic phenomena as diglossia, multilingualism and hybrid teaching formats. This year's symposium will discuss the topic of hybridity from a research and methodological perspective in an effort to raise interest and concern for its complexity and prospects in a research and teaching environment. The discussion of the many facets of multilingualism in its translatory and methodological dimensions will hopefully contribute to greater knowledge and acceptance of this global phenomenon in our everyday lives.

“Rhythm” in the Concepts of Audio and Visual Arts
This call is meant to establish communication and interaction between different cultures and to form a scientific community that includes researchers from the ocean to the Gulf, in addition to addressing common civilizational problems. This International Scientific Conference is dedicated to “Rhythm”. Rhythm regulates the durations of sounds in music, supporting its process and layers of its hierarchy to deliver an expressive discourse based on harmony and dissonance, on stillness and sound. Even in the freest melodies (Adlib), the rhythm does not disappear, but rather its presence takes a random, regular shape. Cinema does not differ in the interactions of the image and music, but also indulges in the manifestations of rhythm to imbue the viewer with sensory interactions that oscillate between tension and calm.

Call for papers for the fifth issue of RADDAR (Design Annual Review) focusing on the subject of Exhibiting Design. RADDAR is a thematic and bilingual journal for design research and is jointly published by mudac (Musée cantonal de design et d’arts appliqués contemporains, Lausanne) and T&P Work UNit, Paris. This fifth edition explores the question of how design in its many forms can be exhibited today. Given the expansion of the concept of design and the extension of our spaces into virtual worlds, what challenges do exhibition spaces and exhibition makers, whether in museums and galleries or wherever design is shown, have to face today?

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of The Waste Land’s first publication, the LARCA (Laboratoire de recherches sur les cultures anglophones, UMR CNRS 8225, université de Paris) is very pleased to invite T.S. Eliot scholars, and specialists of Modernism more generally, to share and discuss their (re)assessment of the reception of T. S. Eliot’s works and ideas in the various languages of Europe. We are especially, but not exclusively, interested in probing the role of translation in reception and canonization processes, that is, in the formation and reshaping of literary canons and their effect on the circulation of literary theory.

Understanding the War in the Ukraine
CFP Forum Ukraine - The American University of Paris
The George and Irina Schaeffer Center for the Study of Genocide, Human Rights, and Conflict Prevention, and the American University of Paris hope to provide a virtual forum on May 9-10, 2022, for scholars from multiple disciplines and humanitarian activists to process the causes and consequences of the war in the Ukraine. Because of the urgency and ongoing nature of the conflict, we are not expecting polished academic presentations but short (10-15 minutes) thought pieces that help to elucidate various aspects and interpretations of the war. A primary aim is to give Ukrainian and Russian scholars the opportunity to express themselves and their point of view.

The Archaeology of Power through Discourse
Interstudia n°33
The changes from the socio-political life constantly bring about major transformations also encountered in contemporary communication and in the current ways of expression. More than ever, the clash with the dramatic events which have affected the whole world lately, imperatively demands us to ponder on words as a way to influence the actions and the power discourse or as a way to influence, to act upon and to control the others. Therefore, the current issue of our review, Interstudia, aims at a united effort to reflect upon the forms and ways through which discourse illustrates different degrees of power.

Blended learning of foreign languages: A new reality in higher education
Over the last decade, there has been a shift in education strategies from traditional methods of instruction to a more innovative methods of teaching, involving information and communication technologies (ICTs) and social interaction mediums. The theory of integrating ICTs in foreign language education combined with classical ways is a good example of what educationists call blended learning (BL). Attempting to put this theory into practice, this conference is expected to bring together different experiences of scholars worldwide to synthesize a common framework for action. Exploring teachers and students attitudes towards using different BL methods would familiarize practitioners for more professional development.

Return to animality: theoretical perspectives, cultural approaches and artistic manifestations
In the context of ontological uncertainty, but also of the tragic collapse of biodiversity and the environment, in which preoccupations for the future of man and his relationship with other species increase, how shall one preserve a definition of human being? It is thus pressing to reflect on the future of humanity from new perspectives that might assume a return to a certain animality or even to a reanimalization of man. The aim of this colloquium is to create a plural and interdisciplinary space for reflection on these issues, calling for a dialogue between different perspectives and disciplines.

Diplomatic Gifts and Counter-Gifts (16th-early 20th c)
Understandings and Misunderstandings between Britain and the Muslim East, 16th to Early 20th Century
As symbolic commodities circulating within and across cultures, gifts offer rich and multiple perspectives on the conduct of international diplomacy and its corollary cross-cultural transactions. Taking as our focus diplomatic relations between Britain and the three Muslim systems of the Ottomans, Persians, and Mughals over a period ranging from early contacts in the 16th century to the high age of the British empire, we wish to map out the shifts of paradigms and the redefinitions of circuits of allegiance and power through objects over the longue durée.

This conference is proposed within the framework of the issues associated with climate change and the sustainability of the cities of tomorrow. It is a question of dealing with the double problem of the adaptation of cities to climate change and to the new solutions envisaged by urban decision-makers. The urban context offers an important angle of observation in view of the role of the built environment on the sustainability of cities. This international conference calls for contributions from disciplines dealing with urban planning, architecture, heritage, engineering, urban planning reglementations and building materials.
