“Like a Face Drawn in Sand at the Edge of the Sea”
Vicissitudes of the Posthuman Forty Years After Foucault’s Death
Forty years after Foucault's death and sixty after the publication of An Archaeology of the Human Sciences, we would like to invite you to interrogate the posthuman as an open problem and process on the historical and epistemic level. In particular, we would like to discuss whether and how historiographical and methodological issues pertaining to the archeological project have been transformed, scaled down, transposed or partially resolved today.

« Imago mundi ». Un regard sur la métaphore : créativité, phraséologie et discours
The guiding question of the conference will therefore be to try to specify the linguistic and conceptual functioning of the metaphor. More generally, the conference will welcome any contribution aimed at bringing out the relationships between metaphor and the three concepts in question: creativity, lexicalization and discourse. The analysis of metaphor can proceed from both a diachronic and synchronic perspective and address different types of corpora and texts. The conference will pay particular attention to the analysis of different types of discourse, in particular scientific, technological, media, tourism, advertising, political, legal, philosophical, historical, literary, artistic and educational/didactic discourse.

Knowledge and Know-How Serving the Reactivation of Celtic and Medieval Music
Archaeo-Musicology and Archaeo-Luthiery
On the occasion of the 30th Annual Meeting of the European Association of Archaeologists, to be held from August 28 to 31 in Rome (Italy), a call for papers has been launched for a colloquium on the archaeo-violin making, or how to understand instruments from an archaeological point of view, from the Celts to the Middle Ages. If it is accepted that violin making is defined as the craftsmanship of stringed and necked instruments still used today, we can call “archaeo-violin making” the craftsmanship of musical instruments of the past, the physical traces of which are too fragmentary to be able to work by reproduction, as is the case for instruments kept in collections.

Traces of Extinction: Species Loss, Solastalgia, and Semiotics of Recovery
The sixth mass species extinction is one of the greatest ecological threats of our time. The rate at which species are going extinct appears to be a hundred times higher now than a century ago (Ceballos et al. 2015). In this context, our interest in this conference lies in cultural, subjective and semiotic approaches to extinction. How is modern culture so effective at masking this catastrophic process? How is extinction perceived subjectively, both from the point of view of the dying species and the humans who witness it? What cultural strategies can be used to raise awareness of extinction? What means do individuals and communities have for reducing and avoiding species extinction?

The aim of this conference is to open a discussion on the topic of “computing the human.” It is intended as a “melting pot” for interdisciplinary debate reflecting the complexity of the issues : cultural history of computing, human-computer interaction (HCI), and emotion programming, all framed by the ethos of diversity and inclusion in computing and artificial intelligence. Contributions are welcomed that focus on the ideas, analyses, and technologies that materialize the visions in various time-spaces, including laboratories, artistic performances and exhibitions, archives, digital spaces, the imagination of more-than-human worlds, artificial bodies and computed emotions, ethical dilemmas and statements, and regulations. The discussion will be fed with concrete research cases, fieldwork, projects, and analyses.

Reflexivity, Methods and Interdisciplinarity in the Age of Anthropocene
In the context of a multidimensional ecological crisis, economic analysis is challenged to adapt its methods so that it can remain relevant to contemporary issues. In particular, calls to strengthen the consideration of biogeophysical dynamics are becoming more and more pressing. The aim of this workshop is to bring together young researchers to question the place of economics in the ecosystem of disciplines in the context of ecological emergency. To help us in our reflection, we will have the pleasure to welcome prof. Michiru Nagatsu from the Helsinki Institute of Sustainability Science. We encourage young scholars (widely defined) researching in economics, philosophy, sociology, history of economic thought or any related discipline to apply to this methodological workshop, either as a speaker or as a simple participant.

History of the History of Archaeology: between Archaeologists’ and Historians’ Concerns
Figures, Trends, and Perspectives (International Union of Prehistoric and Protohistoric Sciences - IUPPS 2023 conference)
Since several decades, historians and sociologists of science scrutinize the history of science as a practice. References demonstrate, first, the relevance of investigating who are the writers of disciplinary histories and what are the uses of these histories and, second, archaeologists’ concern to this regard. This session organised by the “History of Archaeology” commission is intended to strengthen these studies from the case of archaeology.

Lucian Blaga Yearbook / Caietele Lucian Blaga
The actuality of this type of theme, fear and literature, is born out of the experience of the past years, when the pandemic brought about various reformulations, including of literature, but also out of the mutations which have arisen throughout the cultural ages under the influence of fear, analysed from a philosophical, literary, or cultural point of view in relation to all cultural products.

Assessing the (de)construction of technological hypes
TATuP – Journal for Technology Assessment in Theory and Practice - Volume 31, Issue 3 (2023)
This TATuP – Journal for Technology Assessment in Theory and Practice special topic will collect research articles discussing “hypes” and “overpromising”, extending from false claims to inappropriate exaggerations, whether intentional or not. The aim is to support a deeper understanding of hyping language and practices and its underlying dynamics and mechanisms. Hype shall be transformed from a buzzword to a reflected and applicable working concept for different fields and constellations of technology assessment (TA).

Appel à contribution - Époque contemporaine
Expressions of interest are invited for participation in a two-day symposium to take place on 30-31 March 2023 at the University of Oxford, leading to the publication of an edited collection on ‘Luso-Ecologies’ in the following year. We seek to foster discussion among the Lusophone scholarly community about animal, plant and other more-than-human complexities, agencies and materialities in Portuguese-speaking works – ranging from literary and philosophical texts to films and television, the visual arts, activist projects, and beyond. This aims to be the decisive first step in a collaborative research project locating environmental studies and ecocriticism firmly within the scope of Lusophone Studies and Modern Languages research more generally.

Imago, Actus et Verbum. Challenges and Questions in Medieval Studies
A crossdisciplinary dialogue between philology, philosophy, history, art and literature
On the outset of the 21st century, cross-disciplinary studies on the Middle Ages seem to be in need of a careful reconsideration of their nature, scope and aims. This is specially so after the series of "turns" undergone by historiography in the last four decades. Despite their differences, philosophy, history, philology , literary studies and art are also bound through their work on texts; and all are currently faced with both methodological and substantive issues raised by important shifts in contemporary society. This congress is devoted to a global assessment of the current state of affairs in medieval studies, but also the upcoming challenges.

The Society for Technology and Philosophy’s 2021 Technological Imaginaries Conference
Technologies are always more than the sum of their mechanical parts. Indeed, technologies are entangled in symbolic forms of a social and cultural nature. Technologies also contribute to the construction of new worldviews and new forms of life. Technological imaginaries are far more than phantasies detached from technological innovation. They are at the heart of innovation itself, of the invention as well as of the implementation and use of technology in our societies.

Language and Performance: Moving across Discourses and Practices in a Globalized World
European Journal of Theatre and Performance
The European Journal of Theatre and Performance is inviting submissions for its next issue. Against the backdrop of a deeply diversified and often divided global stage, this issue wants to reconsider the fairly strenuous debate on the relationship between language and performance, which has surfaced repeatedly yet in various guises in the field of the performing arts. The editors more specifically invite contributions that critically inquire into how language either enables or impedes the creation and development of performance works, the dissemination of scholarly research, or the reconciliation of local traditions with international tendencies in both the arts and academia. The overarching aim is to shed new light on the intricate connections between language and performance by focusing on the various ways in which performance always operates on the microlevel of concrete practices as well as in dialogue with the macrolevel of larger sociopolitical and cultural contexts.

Violence et crise environnementale
Violence: An international journal

Fair Heritage: Digital Methods, Scholarly Editing and Tools for Cultural and Natural Heritage
The purpose of the conference is to bring together multiple research communities and stakeholders working with Open Science and FAIR principles in the context of heritage studies. As advocated by the European Commission, FAIR principles play a decisive role to define guidelines and valuable tools for managing data in robust ways. We are particularly interested in research questions addressing both methodological and application challenges emerging from data management practices (e.g., data modeling, sharing, integration, analysis, etc.). The conference will provide guidance and ensure the sustainability and implementation of the FAIR model in the context of the European Open Science Cloud. For this purpose to be achieved, the conference will host practical sessions where participants can familiarize with existing methods and tools, and can present their own applications.

Quantum Social Theory: The Future of Sociology?
In sociology, without explicit basis on quantum theory, numerous streams established strong similarities with it, setting at the forefront of their paradigm: the subjectivity of the observer, the continuous adjustment between the object and the observer, the impossibility to be fully deterministic or discussions about an objective reality. In this session, we invite panellists to discuss the links that can be drawn between quantum theory and sociology. We welcome both empirical (qualitative or quantitative) as well as theoretical papers. Depending on the variety and the quality of the papers, a publication will be considered to set the basis of this emerging theoretical stream.
