La démocratie numérique : promesses et illusions

Une société stable et en paix se fonde sur une démocratie solide et forte. Le modèle démocratique est le futur de toute société qui respecte les droits de l’homme. Les nouvelles technologies de l’information et communication et l’avancée encore peu réglementée de l’Intelligence Artificielle ont impacté non seulement toute activité humaine, mais ont aussi contribué à redessiner le rapport au politique, la participation citoyenne, la communication politique et la politique nationale et internationale. La démocratie numérique (ou électronique, cyber, digitale) est un phénomène politico-social qui a commencé à émerger il y a environ une quinzaine d’années dans des contextes nationaux fort diversifiés. Aujourd’hui, c’est un outil qui est utilisé principalement pour l’expression électorale destinée à un nombre assez restreint de citoyens. La finalité de ce colloque international est d’interroger le phénomène de la démocratie électronique non seulement du point de vue instrumental (outil de é-vote), mais d’en interroger les conditions de possibilité et les limites éventuelles.

Le symposium est organisé par le Collaboratif international des fonds documentaires en langue française (CIFNAL) et le partenariat germano-nord-américain sur les ressources (GNARP), deux projets de travail du Centre for Research Libraries (Chicago, États-Unis), avec le soutien de la Bibliothèque nationale allemande et autres partenaires français, allemands et internationaux. Les sujets de session comprennent : les collections et la collaboration ; érudition numérique ; la révolution de l'édition ; nouvelles dimensions du service aux étudiants et étudiants ; et de nouvelles stratégies pour les services et les partenariats.

Towards a graphic culture: studying drawing

Drawing seems nowadays to know unprecedented expansion and to invest all domains of the expression and the communication: book industries, cartoons and animation movies, video games, corporate communication… And we indeed face kind of a paradox: widely present, drawing seems almost impossible to define and some philosophers like Jean-Luc Nancy even invite us to accept the "unthinkable" nature of the drawing. The international conference we organize on June 15^th and 16^th of this year in the villa Finaly of Firenze (Italy) does not intend to adopt similar position. Without wishing necessarily to produce a definition of the drawing, we intend to progress towards its understanding.

This workshop will be devoted to the relations that currently link cybernetics to the life sciences. There is ample evidence of the existence of these links in the historiographical literature, from the inception of cybernetics in Northern America (Heims) as well as in Europe (Pickering). It is not our purpose to dwell on this here, but only to remember that several doctors in medicine and biologists participated in the first meetings of the cyberneticians funded between 1943 and 1951 by the Macy Foundation, a foundation whose work was mainly concerned with the health sciences...

International workshop on computer aided processing of intertextuality in ancient languages

This workshop was initiated as the conclusive meeting of the project Biblindex, funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR), which aims at establishing an exhaustive statement of the biblical references found in the texts of the Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages. At this meeting will be gathered computer scientists and digital humanists, specialists of corpora written in ancient languages. The planned sessions aim to present the state of art regarding concepts and technics used to process quotations in ancient languages. A lot of projects work nowadays on various corpora, asking similar questions about text-reuse. Comparing experiments, we hope to clear perspectives to mutualize developments and methodological choices, in order to build a federative project at the European scale in the coming years.

Are there international forces for change which will affect all markets, and what domestic factors will prevail? What is the connection between the spread of English as the global lingua franca and the growth of digital publishing?

Democracy and Technology. Europe in Tension from the 19th to the 21st century

Public debate, social media demonstrations, participative assessment, technocracy and transparency: these are just some of the issues on the growing list of multiple and evolving interactions between technology and democracy in Europe since the middle of the 19^th Century. The sixth Tensions of Europe conference aims historicizing and exploring these complicated links in long-term perspective. It will address key contemporary issues such as the democratization of technology and the vulnerabilities of technological democracies. The conference will close the ANR funded project « Large technical networks and democracy: innovations, practices and interested parties in long-term perspective, from 1880 to the present day ». The conference will also feature the official presentation of the Making Europe book series, more than 40 panels, and of course the traditional untraditional Tensions events – this time in Parisian style!

Le premier colloque international « La morphologie et ses interfaces » se tiendra à l'université Lille 3, les 12 et 13 septembre 2013. Le symposium abordera les questions liées aux interfaces que la morphologie peut construire avec d'autres disciplines linguistiques : les interfaces internes entre morphologie flexionnelle et dérivationnelle ou interfaces externes entre la morphologie et la syntaxe, la pragmatique, la traduction, la phonologie, le lexique, la linguistique computationnelle, et ainsi de suite.

Both have their origins in knowledge generation and both demonstrate value for government, academics, business and industry through their uses and applications. In a way, innovation and grey literature are two sides of the same coinage. Innovation is the catalyst for positive change and grey literature is the measure of benchmarks in the further process of research and development. The goal of the Fourteenth International Conference on Grey Literature seeks to track the process of innovation by tracing the research life cycle and observing its convergence in the field of grey literature.
