Abstract

A call for tender is open for one Research Grant for Master student under the VAST: Values Across Space and Time project, of which IELT – NOVA FCSH is a partner, financed by European funds through the European Commission (H2020), in the scientific area of Literature. The aim of the project is to study the transformation of moral values in space and time and their communication and perception by different audiences, capturing, digitizing, preserving and analyzing the stories and experiences of those exposed to these values.

A call for tenders for one (1) research grant for a Master student is currently open for the VAST: Values Across Space and Time project (EU 101004949), from the Institute for the Study of Literature and Tradition (IELT) / NOVA FCSH financed by European funds through the European Commission (H2020), under the following conditions:

  • Main Scientific Area: Literature
  • Sub Research field: Literary Studies 

The aim of the project is to study the transformation of moral values in space and time and their communication and perception by different audiences, capturing, digitizing, preserving and analyzing the stories and experiences of those exposed to these values.

Entry requirements

  • Licentiate Degree in Literature;
  • Knowledge of literary and archival research;
  • Familiarity with traditional literature/fairy tales (preferable);
  • Knowledge/interest in database management (preferable); 
  • Capacity of organisation, independence, and team work; 
  • Proficiency in both English and Portuguese languages.

In accordance with the provisions of article 6 of FCT’s Regulation for Studentships and Fellowships (Reg. no. 950/2019):

Research Studentship (students enrolled in courses that do not confer an academic degree)

  1. have a licentiate or master degree and be enrolled in a course that does not confer an academic degree integrated in an educational project of a Higher Education Institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more research institutions;
  2. do not exceed, with the celebration of this contract, including the possible renewals, an accumulated period of two years in this type of scholarship, continuously or with interruptions.

Research Studentship (master student)

  1. be enrolled in an integrated master or master programme

Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries need to be registered by a Portuguese institution, according to the Decree-Law nr. 66/2018, of August, 16th, and the Ordinance nr. 33/2019, of January, 25th. The presentation of the certificate is mandatory to sign the contract. More information.

Work plan

The research grant holder will develop tasks within the European project VAST - VALUES ACROSS TIME AND SPACE, whose main objective is to study the transformation of moral values across space and time, and how these are communicated and perceived by different audiences, capturing, digitising, preserving and analysing of the stories and experiences of those exposed to these values. 

This person will work under close supervision of Dr Alba Morollon Diaz Faes and Dr Diogo Marques, assisting them in the development of tasks related to the project, with overall supervision of the PI Dr Sara Graça da Silva.

The Portuguese team in the consortia participates in PILOT 3: VALUES IN EUROPEAN FOLKTALES, and is composed of the PI and 4 postdoctoral grant holders working on topics that intersect literature, culture and biophysiological data. 

The contracted researcher will participate in tasks related to scientific research; communication and dissemination activities; collaboration in the writing of scientific publications and organisation of events such as conferences and workshops.

Workplace

The work will be carried out at Colégio Almada Negreiros, Universidade Nova de Lisboa and/or other locations necessary for the development of the research activities under the scientific guidance of Doctor Sara Graça da Silva, Dr. Alba Morollon Diaz Faes and Dr Diogo Marques.

Duration of the scholarship

The scholarship will have a duration of 6 months, eventually renewable (estimated starting date September 1st, 2022).

Monthly maintenance allowance

The scholarship amount corresponds to 875,98 €, paid monthly by bank transfer, according to the table of scholarship values directly attributed by FCT, I.P. in the country. To this value, the voluntary social insurance corresponding to the first level is added in case the candidate opts for its attribution, as well as the personal accident insurance

Selection methods

The selection methods to be used will be as follows: curriculum evaluation and interview. The applicants admitted to the tender will be assessed at two stages: the first stage will be the curricular assessment (AC) and the second will be the Interview (E) with the following weightings: AC 0-90 points and E 0-10 points. Only candidates with a rating resulting from the AC of 65 points or more will pass to the second stage (E). 

The evaluation and ranking criteria for the candidates in AC will be the following: 

  • Letter of motivation (20);
  • Candidate's publications and their connection to the position of the tender (20);
  • Research activities considered of greatest importance by the candidate, connected with the position, including archival experience; digitalisation and database knowledge, and proven fluency in English and Portuguese (30);
  • Outreach and/or dissemination activities considered of greatest importance by the candidate, connected to the position of the tender, including the participation in the organisation of scientific meetings, communications given at scientific meetings; and the dissemination of knowledge to extended audiences (20 points).

Submission guidelines

The competition is open from 04th of July until 03rd of August 2022. 

It is mandatory to formalize applications with the submission of the application letter accompanied by the following documents:

  • Curriculum Vitae (max 4 pages), with evidence of the elements required in the curricular assessment (AC);
  • Licentiate Degree certificate;
  • Registration in a study cycle;
  • Letter of motivation (max 1 page);
  • and other supporting documentation considered relevant.

In the case of academic degrees obtained in foreign Higher Education Institutions, the presentation of the recognition of the obtained degrees is necessary, according to the DecreeLaw nr. 66/2018, of August, 16th, or, in the absence of the recognition within the application deadline, a declaration of honour on how the applicant will have that recognition before the grant is contracted, in case he/she is the selected applicant.

Notwithstanding, the presentation of the recognition of the academic degree is mandatory at the time of contract signature.

Publication/Notification of results

the final evaluation results will be published via email in a list ranked by final grade at a visible and public area of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, being the selected candidate notified by email

After the notification of the provisional list of the evaluation results, candidates have a period of 10 working days to contest the decision, as provided for in the Administrative Procedures Code. The final decision must be taken within 60 days after the conclusion of the preliminary hearing of interested parties or of the public consultation.

From the final decision, candidates may file a complaint within 15 working days, or appeal to the highest executive body of the funding entity within 30 working days, both after the respective notification.
