Presentation

The journal Vita Latina is aimed at those involved in all areas of research in Latin studies (literature, history, philology, archaeology, philosophy, religion, mythology, arts, architecture), from the origins to the Renaissance.

The journal publishes in the main European languages (English, French, German, Italian and Spanish) and welcomes the work of young researchers: from now on, at least one article in each issue is written by a doctoral or post-doctoral student. However, doctoral student papers must be submitted with the prior approval of their research supervisor.

Articles on free subjects form the core of the journal, supplemented by a few articles on authors on the syllabus for the French Agrégation in Classics, Grammar and Philosophy.

The program for the French Agrégation in Classics and Grammar, published on April 10, 2024 for the 2025 session, includes the following authors:

  • Lucain, La Pharsale VI, in La Guerre civile. La Pharsale, tome II : livres VI-X, text established and translated by Abel Bourgery and Max Ponchont, Paris, Les Belles Lettres, C.U.F.
  • Suetonius, Life of Caligula and Life of Claudius in Life of the Twelve Caesars, Volume II: Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius, Nero, text compiled and translated by Henri Ailloud, Paris, Les Belles Lettres, C.U.F.
  • Lucretius, De natura rerum, I, vol. I, text compiled and translated by Alfred Ernout, Paris, Les Belles Lettres, C.U.F.
  • Justin, Abrégé des Histoires Philippiques de Trogue Pompée, tome II, livres XI-XVIII, text established and translated by Bernard Mineo, Paris, Les Belles Lettres, C.U.F.

Images are only accepted if they are essential to the demonstration. In this case, they must be of good quality and, above all, free of copyright - otherwise they cannot be reproduced.

Submission guidelines

Texts must be accompanied by a presentation of the author, a double summary - one in French and one in English - and key words - in French and in English - (see .pdf document of Instructions to authors at the following address: http://vitalatina.fr/contribuer/indications-aux-auteurs/ ).

They must be sent by 15 September of the current year at the latest,

to the attention of Régine UTARD (revue.vitalatina@gmail.com), who will submit them for a double anonymous expertise. Submitting a text for publication obliges the author to publish it in the journal - if the expert considers it publishable.

The journal also has a section for recent book reviews. If you are interested in sending a copy of a book for review, please contact Pierre-Alain CALTOT (revue.vitalatina@gmail.com).
