Presentation

Theia. Revue d’histoire et histoire de l’art is a young Open Access scientific journal dedicated to research in the history and history of art of the modern and contemporary periods (15th c. - 21st c.). Interactions between history and art history, notably through visual and material cultures, form one of the magazine's key pillars. The journal encourages exchange and collaboration between young and established researchers, based on the Peer Review principle. Articles are published in one of five languages: French, English, Spanish, Italian, German.

The second thematic issue 2025, coordinated by Damien Delille and Emannuelle Retaillaud, focuses on "Trouble dans le visuel. Ambiguities of gender and sex in the arts and sciences, from the Enlightenment to Stonewall".

To complement the thematic issue, researchers  are  invited  to  submit  articles for  the Varia section. Varia may, for example, include reviews of study days or colloquia, or articles not related to the main theme of the issue. The Notes and Documents section is aimed primarily at young researchers (Masters and PhDs), and in general at documentary and archival finds that lend themselves to a smaller format.
