Abstract

The successful applicant will have a degree in archaeology, a masters qualification in osteology and paleopathology and a minimum of 2 years experience of fieldwork and human skeletal analysis. An interest in post medieval burial is desirable. Whilst this post is primarily based from the Oxford office, there may be opportunity to work on our projects based in France and therefore the ability to speak and work in French will be an advantage.

Announcement

The role will encompass the excavation and recording of inhumations and cremations in the field combined with post excavation analysis of human remains and report writing. You will be expected to be experienced and competent in running projects in the field.

You will be a more senior member of the Burials Department which undertakes a wide range of projects of all periods throughout the country.

Osteo-archaeologists working at the Project Officer level need to be able to demonstrate their skills and experience in:
  • Co-ordinating the management of small to medium scale projects from the initial tendering and preparation stage for the work, coordinating the fieldwork investigation, through to the post excavation analysis and report writing for publication
  • Successful communications and liaison with project stakeholders including clients, colleagues, curators and the public
  • Providing advice on human burials and related issues to colleagues and the public, and
  • Providing guidance and support to less experienced members of the burials team and to field staff .

Membership of the Institute of Field Archaeologists at the AIFA level minimum is desirable, as is membership of BABAO (British Association of Biological Anthropologists and Osteologists). Also, a clean full driving licence is essential.

SALARY RANGE: £18,807 - £22,875pa (dependent on experience)
