Lors de cette rencontre autour des « Thermes dans leurs contextes - Le Bain romain dans la ville et dans la vie », des chercheurs de renom et de jeunes chercheurs internationaux se réuniront pour présenter des communications et discuter de deux aspects de la fonction sociale des bains romains. Le colloque débutera le 21 février par une visite du vicus romain de Dalheim et de son bain. La découverte de ce site archéologique majeur sera une entrée en matière à la première session du colloque, le lendemain, avec trois communications sur Dalheim. Le premier aspect thématique du colloque le 22 et 23 février traitera des diverses activités qui ont pu avoir lieu dans les différentes salles des thermes, outre le bain ou la toilette, et qui peuvent être déduites à la lumière du mobilier archéologique découvert. Le deuxième aspect abordera l'urbanisme et la position des établissements thermaux dans l’espace géographique et social des agglomérations antiques. L’approche combinée de ces deux aspects thématiques donnera une nouvelle impulsion aux études futures sur les bâtiments de bain romains et dépasseront la simple analyse des détails architecturaux et des sources littéraires. Le colloque se clôturera le 24 février par une excursion à Trèves pour découvrir ou redécouvrir la riche diversité des thermes dans cette ville impériale.

The conference participation fee amounts to 40 € (reduction for students: 20 €) and comprises the coach trips to Dalheim and to Trier, the participation to the conference days as well as coffee/tea breaks.
