Abstract
New Europe College – Institute for Advanced Study in Bucharest, Romania – announces the competition for Fellowships for the academic year 2014-15. The program targets young international researchers/academics working in the fields of humanities, social studies, and economics.

Terms
The Fellowship consists of:
- a monthly stipend of 600 Euro (tax free),
- accommodation,
- international transportation to and from the home country of the Fellows at the beginning and the end of the Fellowship, as well as for season holidays.
The Fellows who stay for the whole academic year are offered a one-month research trip abroad to an institution of their choice (2,600 Euro for transportation, accommodation, and per diem). As an alternative, they can opt for field research, in Romania or outside it.
The Fellows are expected to work on their own projects, and take part in the scientific events organized by the New Europe College. At the end of their Fellowship, each Fellow is expected to hand in a research paper, reflecting the results of his/her work over the duration of the Fellowship. The papers will be included in a NEC publication.
Duration of the Fellowship
a) a full academic year (10 months, October through July) or
b) a one-term fellowship (October through February, or March through July).
Location
New Europe College – Institute for Advanced Study, Bucharest, Romania.
Working languages
English, French, and German. A good command of English is desirable.
Eligibility
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. title or be doctoral students in an advanced stage of their research. Preference is given to candidates under the age of 40, and to those who have not yet benefited from a NEC Fellowship.

- Applications will be submitted in electronic format only, to the address: applications@nec.ro
- Candidates are asked to enter in the Subject field of their e-mail message ”NEC International Fellowship”.
- The deadline for the submission of applications is : December 9, 2013
Incomplete or late applications will not be taken into consideration.
A complete application consists of:
- a recent photo;
- the application form (in Microsoft Word format), completed in English, French, or German (and sent as an e-mail attachment in Microsoft Word format).
- at least 2 original letters of reference (in English, French, or German) written explicitly in support of your application for the NEC International Fellowship Program 2014-15.
- The letters of reference should be e-mailed by the referees directly to the address: applications@nec.ro;
- The letters of reference should be written by academics familiar with your research work, explicitly in support of your application for the NEC Fellowship Program 2014-15, and of the proposed research project.
- Application letters without a date, or recommending you for other fellowship programs will not be taken into consideration
- The letters of reference should be written in English, French or German.
- scanned document(s) proving that the applicant holds the Ph.D. title or is enrolled in a Ph.D. program.
- In case you have to insert additional pages in the application form, please number them.
Please answer all the questions in the application form (trying not to exceed the allotted space).
Schedule
We will acknowledge receipt of an application and confirm whether the application requirements have been met within 7 days after the deadline.
The applicants will be notified on the results of the pre-selection at the beginning of March 2014, by e-mail. The shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview via Skype, organized on April 3-5, 2014.
Since during the selection process we may have to contact you, please inform us about any change that may occur in your contact details (mailing address, e-mail, telephone number, fax), even if this change is temporary.

SELECTION PROCESS AND INTERVIEW
The applications will be evaluated by a committee of Romanian and foreign specialists. The results of the pre-selection will be announced at the beginning of March 2014. The shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview via Skype, scheduled to take place on April 3-5, 2014. The interview will be held in English, French or German.
