Abstract
Alexander of Aphrodisias was appointed to a chair of Aristotelian philosophy in Athens at the end of the Second Century B.C. Famously known as the ‘Exegete par excellence’, Alexander has also been studied over the last 20 years as a genuine philosopher. Alexander’s work played in fact a key-role not only in the transmission of Aristotle’s philosophy but also in its renewal. The Conference will explore these different features of Alexander’s work: exegetical and philosophical. It aims to promote most recent research on Alexander of Aphrodisias and to offer PhD students and postdoctoral researchers the opportunity to present their work.

Alexander of Aphrodisias was appointed to a chair of Aristotelian philosophy in Athens at the end of the Second Century B.C. Famously known as the ‘Exegete par excellence’, Alexander has also been studied over the last 20 years as a genuine philosopher. The Conference will explore these different features of Alexander’s work: exegetical and philosophical.
It aims to promote most recent research on Alexander of Aphrodisias and to offer PhD students and postdoctoral researchers the opportunity to present their work.
Attendance is free, everyone is welcome.
The conference will take place in Lille (France) from 5 to 6 June, 2014, at the Maison de la Recherche, Université Lille 3.
The conference is part of the project “Didaskalos”, which is supported by the French National Research Agency (ANR) and gathers 3 Research Units (Lille 3, Paris 1, Aix-Marseille).
