Abstract
Organized within the framework of the three branches of the PhD course in Anthropology - Social and Cultural Anthropology, Forensic Anthropology, and Biological Anthropology - this symposium aims to discuss the impact of natural disasters in the human life in an interdisciplinary approach. The International Symposium on Anthropology and Natural Disasters will offer the possibility for a complementary dialogue between the various fields of anthropology, in the understanding and resolution of problems, and in the promotion of new research avenues.

Presentation and argument
On behalf of the Department of Life Sciences we would like to invite you to participate in the International Symposium on Anthropology and Natural Disasters to be held in the University of Coimbra (UC), Portugal, on April 17-18, 2015.
Organized within the framework of the three branches of the PhD course in Anthropology - Social and Cultural Anthropology, Forensic Anthropology, and Biological Anthropology - this symposium aims to discuss the impact of natural disasters in the human life in an interdisciplinary approach.
The International Symposium on Anthropology and Natural Disasters will offer the possibility for a complementary dialogue between the various fields of anthropology, in the understanding and resolution of problems, and in the promotion of new research avenues. It will feature a blend of presentation formats, including keynote lectures, podium presentations, organized poster sessions, and photo exhibition(s).
The Symposium will be part of the 17th Cultural Week of the University of Coimbraunder the celebration of UC’s 725 years: Tempo de Encontro(s) and the 130 years of the creation of the discipline of Anthropology in Coimbra/Portugal.
We look forward to welcome you at the “Students’ city” and University of Coimbra Alta and Sofia World Heritage.

Submission guidelines
The official languages of the Symposium are Portuguese, English, Spanish and French. However, all the abstracts and texts (slides and poster) must be in English.
Abstracts must be submitted as Word file, or compatible, by e.mail

- Keywords (maximum 5)
Authors should indicate their presentation preference: podium - 15 minutes - or poster (maximum dimensions: 120 cm height x 170 cm width).
