Abstract

The International Society of History of Sport and Physical Education (ISHPES) is the umbrella organisation for sports historians all over the world. The aim of the 17th ISHPES Congress is to provide a forum for the latest research, findings and experiences from the vast field of sport history. Researchers are invited to submit papers related to "Sites of sport in history" – these words being taken in their widest sense.

Argument

The International Societi of History of Sport and Physical Education (ISHPES) is the umbrella organisation for sports historians all over the world. The aim of the 17th ISHPES Congress is to provide a forum for the latest research, findings and experiences from the vast field of sport history. Researchers are invited to submit papers related to “Sites of sport in history” – these words being taken in their widest sense. 

Papers are expected to meet the following sub-themes:

  • From local to global sports cultures
  • The spreading of sports cultures: acculturation and innovation 
  • Sports facilities : architectures and urban planning
  • Outdoor sports in nature and cities
  • Indoor sports and spatial segregation
  • Sport as a contested space
  • Sport in figurative space: art, literature, cinema
  • Heritage and memory places
  • Physical education and sport in schools/colleges/universities
  • Open paper

Specific symposia

  • Sports sites in closed area
  • Sanitary stakes in sports sites planning 

Submission Guidelines

Abstract submission opening: 1st December 2015

Abstract submission closing: 31st January 2016 

The official language of the congress is English.

Abstract submission is exclusively online on ishpes website: www.ishpes.org
