Argument

In this second number, the journal will publish in its Thematic Section works about the great Brazilian writer João Guimarães Rosa. JoãoGuimarães Rosa distinguishes himself  by the innovative use of language in his work. He lived, researched and analyzed the Portuguese language spoken in the sertãomineiro (inland of the Brazilian State of Minas Gerais) and reinvented it thus creating an unique language. On the lexical level he creates neologisms inspired by popular speech and he also uses regionalisms, loanwords and archaisms. On the syntax level he breaks with the tradition in which the narrator writes the standard Portuguese and the characters speak in a "wrong" way. JoãoGuimarães Rosa illustrates the sertanejo (inland dweller) universe in a poetic way, resorting to poetry forms such as rhythm, alliterations, metaphors and other figures. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his death, this issue will dedicate its Thematic Section to the theme "JoãoGuimarães Rosa and the invention of the language from translation point of view" which will privilege unpublished papers that address the author's relationship with language from translation perspective, as well as the innovations he brought to Brazilian literature, such as the translation of his work and its repercussion in other countries. This issue will include: articles, translated articles, book reviews, translation reviews, interviews, translations, and arts (poems, tales, images, self-translations).We accept papers in Portuguese, English, Spanish and French.
