Abstract

Argument

This call for paper of the 4th SIE Congress appeals to the diversity of the research conducted by various groups in the world that invoke the ergological approach[1] in order to assess the way we’ve come and to outline some future avenues. These groups tend to fall into two categories:

  • Those who use the ergological approach to enrich another academic discipline. This concerns a diversity of such disciplines, including, among others, language sciences, political science, economics, health sciences, pedagogy / educational sciences, sociology, philosophy, psychology, ergonomics, etc. A chief objective of the Congress will be to list all these disciplines and to identify the collaborations that are sketching themselves out among them.
  • Those who start from the outset with the ergological conceptualization of activity and the practices it involves, particularly in terms of "indisciplinarity". This is the case for example in France, of various “working groups”, the "Mobile Ergology Team of the Marseilles Hospitals", and more recently the "Amazing Workers" meetings. These are initiatives that also exist in other countries. In none of them is disciplinary knowledge ignored or absent, but it seems to be resituated immediately as part of the ergological approach. A second objective of the Congress will be to list all these groups and evaluate the connections that exist (or not) between them, and to highlight their contributions to the ergological work of conceptualization.

On the basis of these observations, it is possible to formulate a unified question: how can the ergological approach help the progress of disciplinary conceptualizations ? Conversely, what are the contributions of these different disciplines and of these various initiatives to the ergological approach ? Finally, what can be said about the multidisciplinary, "indisciplinary," or "a-disciplinary" nature of the ergological approach ?

A third objective will be to list the so-called "multidisciplinary concepts" used in these collaborations, and to analyze how the ergological conceptualization intervenes within these collaborations and facilitates them.

This raises the question of how far this ergological conceptualization is "reprocessed" in the discipline ? A fourth objective will be to ask the question of the "return to the discipline": how does the contribution of the ergological approach modify the internal functioning and conceptualization of each of the academic discipline involved ?

This set of objectives should make it possible to associate as many "local groups" as possible, and to open up a relevant discussion (based on concrete research) on the nature of ergological pluridisciplinarity. These objectives cannot be achieved without addressing the question of the history of those processes (disciplinary or not) that are following the ergological approach. A final report will give visibility to the ongoing research activities, interventions and projects.

Recommendations

Proposals for communication must be sent before March 18th 2018

to the General-Secretary of the SIE (secretaire.sie@orange.fr). They will have to address the objectives defined above and not extend 500 words (in English, Spanish, French or Portuguese) and indicate the language in which they will be presented as well as a second language for a power point presentation.

They will be examined by the Scientific Committee of the Congress, which will be free to add additional assessors (the list will be made public). The final decision of the Scientific Committee will be communicated before April 15th 2018, and will specify the assignment of the communication either in plenary sessions or in workshops.

The complete texts of the selected papers must be submitted before July 15th 2018 in order to be published before the Congress. The typographic standards will be defined beforehand and transmitted by the Scientific Committee.

It is also possible to submit posters illustrating some of the research or initiatives that will be exhibited during the Congress.

[1] The ergological research can not be reduced to studies carried out at university or by professional researchers only. They include in principle all initiatives that aim to illustrate and develop knowledge about human activity.
