PIUDHIST is an inter-university doctoral programme in which History is viewed from an inter-disciplinary point of view. Despite its unique character, History is regarded here as a field of knowledge which cannot do without a permanent cross fertilization with other areas in the humanities and the social sciences. In our vision, this is also why we consider apposite to attach, as a subtitle for this programme, the words “change and continuity in a global world”. It takes place in Lisbon, Portugal, jointly organized by the University of Lisbon, University of Évora, Portuguese Catholic University and ISCTE - Lisbon University Institute. Courses and seminars run in Portuguese and English. Enrolled students receive monitoring assistance by tutors and supervisors.

It takes place in Lisbon, Portugal, jointly organized by the University of Lisbon, University of Évora, Portuguese Catholic University and ISCTE - Lisbon University Institute.

Courses and seminars run in Portuguese and English. Enrolled students receive monitoring assistance by tutors and supervisors.

At the moment, the application call for candidates to academic year 2018/2019 is running.

Application guidelines

There will be two stages of application, as following:

• 1^st stage: from 16^th April to 15^th June 2018
• 2^nd stage: from 16^th July to 17 August 2018

The elements required for an application are the following:

• Curriculum Vitae;
• Academic transcripts and legal proofs of the diplomas and degrees awarded;
• Copy of ID;
• A photo;
• Letter of intent stating the reasons and the motivations for choosing PIUDHIST;
• Outline of doctoral dissertation project (title and objectives, max. 1000 words);
• Master’s dissertation and, if applicable, another relevant publication (pdf format);
• Two letters of recommendation.

Selection

The selection and evaluation of applications will be carried out by a jury composed of the PIUDHist Directive Board, chaired by its Director, who will evaluate the merits of the candidates and produce an orderly list based on the following criteria and parameters:

• Classification of degree: 10 %
• Rating Masters: 25%
• Experience and ability to develop advanced research: 35%
• Motivation letter, interview and project abstract: 30%

The final decision of the ranking of applications will be notified within one month after the closing date of each period of applications.

Tuition fees

Scholarship holders and foreign (outside the European Union) students:

• 2,750 euros per academic year

Portuguese students (non-scholarship holders):

• 1st year – 1,375 euros
• 2nd year – 1,200 euros
• 3rd year – 1,200 euros
• 4th year – 1,200 euros
