Abstract
The HES-SO University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland, Geneva, is recruiting for the HETS School of Social Work and a SNSF-funded research project an assistant UAS SNSF PhD student in Anthropology, at 100%. The successful candidate will write a PhD thesis within the project “Im/mobile Others in Chile. (Re) defining Race and the Nation-State from Indigenous and Migrants’ Perspectives”.

1 year renewable contract, under private law
Mission
Contribute to the research project focussed on nation-state building and racialisation processes regarding three social groups:
- The Mapuche, main Chilean indigenous group;
- New migrant populations;
- White Chileans.
The candidate will be enrolled in the PhD program of the University of Fribourg, under the joined supervision of Prof. Lavanchy (University of Applied Sciences) and Prof. Bozzini (University of Fribourg)
Profile
- Master’s degree, ideally in anthropology or a related field, or equivalent;
- Excellent skills in ethnographic methods (qualitative interviewing, participant observation);
- Spanish fluency, good spoken and written English skills as well as the willingness to engage with two long-term fieldwork in Chile (respectively 8 and 4 months between 2019 and 2020);
- Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently;
- Good organizational skills.
Characteristics of the position
The successful candidate will be hired under a private law contract. The annual gross salary rate is 47’040 CHF for a 100% work rate and will progress according to SNSF rates. The duration of this contract is 1 year, renewable maximum three times (48 months in total).
Starting date: 01.03.2019
Workplaces: HETS, rue Prévost-Martin 28, 1205 Genève ; Fieldwork in Chile.
