The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) Archives is pleased to announce that it is accepting applications for its 2020 fellowship program.

The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) Archives is pleased to announce that it is accepting applications for its 2020 fellowship program. In 2020, seven fellowships will be awarded to senior scholars, postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, and independent researchers to conduct research in the JDC Archives, either in New York or in Jerusalem. Topics in the fields of twentieth century Jewish history, modern history, social welfare, migration, and humanitarian assistance will be considered, as well as other areas of academic research covered in the JDC archival collections.  Our finding aids can be consulted to identify relevant areas. The fellowship awards are $2,000-$5,000 and the deadline for submission is January 21, 2020.

JDC Archives Fellowship Application Form is online.

The complete application is due by January 21, 2020.

Note: Online applications may only be submitted once completed in their entirety. You may not save data and return at a later point. Please make sure to review required fields and prepare all required information before getting started. Should you have any issues completing the application, please contact archivesfellowship@jdc.org. Please note that applications must be submitted in English.

Two letters of reference are required.

Your references should complete The JDC Archives Fellowship Reference Form

We encourage you to check-in with your references and confirm that they have submitted their letters.

Please prepare the following and submit attachments as one zip file.

  • Current resume/CV
  • Writing sample such as published articles, photographs, or excerpts from larger works (optional)
  • In an essay that is no longer than two (2) pages, please indicate proposed area of research in the JDC Archives. Essay should relate to the following points:
  • How research in the JDC Archives would support your work
  • Possible archival collections you may use
  • Proposed timetable for research
  • How you plan to use the fellowship funds (please be specific)
  • The expected date or time frame for the rendering of your research project
  • Bibliography of at least three sources (books, articles, films, etc.) that have informed your research topic
