Queerness and Gender Diversity in/to Migration
Norms, Discourses, Control Mechanisms
This workshop will gather scholars, students, practitioners, and civil society actors working in the fields of gender, sexuality, migrations, queer studies and related fields, and aims at unraveling the role of surveillance in the production of sexualities during migration processes. Beyond the North/South divide, it intends to conduct a non-Eurocentric analysis of trans and queer migrations, while looking at surveillance in its social, institutional, legal and normative dimensions. To this end, the workshop will revolve around three themes associated with the surveillance of queer and trans migrations, exercise of surveillance, circumvention of surveillance, and the effects of surveillance.

Migration and the construction of social stratifications
A Bourdieusian approach on migrants’ positionalities in European societies
This call aims to gather papers that investigate migrants’ insertion into European societies drawing inspiration from Bourdieu’s analysis. The 21st IMISCOE (International Migration Research Network) conference has reflexivity as its theme. It is arguable that few other sociological thinkers put the issue of epistemological reflexivity at the centre of their theoretical framework than Bourdieu. This entailed a reflexivity of both the position of the theorist, and connected with this, the concepts that they were using in order to understand and explain the social world. Such a reflexivity would of course also extend to the concepts used by migration scholars.

An uninterrupted thread of operational intensity
This collective volume aims to provide a historical understanding of the intensification of automation in the comics industry, leading to today’s integration of algorithmic tools for the production of comics. It has the goal to examine to which extent comics are the direct output of industrial processes of completion based on instituted sets of standardization practices and how deeply automation is embedded in the conceptualization of artistic practices in the medium. Comics as Computation ambitions to analyze how the integration of computational processes for the production of contemporary comics is consistent with the industry’s early experiments in automation. This volume looks for contributions that suggest historical continuities by following the uninterrupted thread of the same operational intensity with today’s synthetic comics and generalized adoption of computational tools such as Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, chatgpt, Hugging Face, among many others.

Territories, communities and sustainability: views from Southern Europe
The theme “Territories, communities and sustainability : views from Southern Europe” is a challenging approach to study the links between different areas of knowledge, inviting interdisciplinary outlooks to sociologists and other social scientists interested in environment, development and educational issues. This can be a particularly relevant reflection in the post-pandemic phase of current times, highlighting regional and local features of a global experience. It allows comparing Southern European societies, between themselves but also with other European (and non-European) societies, and therefore, providing insights to better understand each geographic and cultural area.

The Armenian Genocide: New Interpretations and Cross-Disciplinary Conversations
The study of the Armenian genocide often remains confined to restricted circles of specialists and interdisciplinarity is too rarely promoted. And, although comparative research is praised, it is frequently reduced to the juxtaposition of case studies. Research on the Armenian genocide is now ready to address more cross-cutting issues and to fully contribute to broader discussions on mass violence. Therefore, this conference asks: how can the social sciences, memory studies, and genocide studies contribute to a broader understanding of the Armenian genocide and its aftermath? And reciprocally: what is the contribution of research on the Armenian genocide to our understanding of mass crimes and to the social sciences?
