Interdisciplinary Franco-Latin-American perspectives on challenges related to the environment
Since the 1970s, environmental issues have continued to grow. Indeed, we have moved from a localized perception of environmental damage to a global understanding of the risks associated with climate change and their impacts on socio-ecosystems. In order to better respond to the challenges and stakes of the environmental crisis that is impacting us, it seems appropriate to share and make known the experiences and theories developed from different continents, cultures and geographies in order to enrich our object of study. In this regard, this Congress, which will be held from October 23 to 27, 2023 in Costa Rica, proposes to offer perspectives on multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary studies on environmental issues: climate change, biodiversity, resilience, global health, payments for environmental services, etc.

International organizations (IOs) play a central role in contemporary international law-making: they institutionalize many of the processes through which international law is adopted today, be it through international law-making conferences, international courts or as IO secondary law. Yet, the question of democratic representation in IOs, but also by IOs when they become members of other IOs or intervene as participants in other international law-making processes remains difficult, to say the least.

The long-distance, large-scale luxury trade or the promotion of the arts by merchants are extremely important elements in the evolution of our contemporary societies. What were the legal and institutional strategies on the topic of the judicial history of commerce? Tax privileges, protection of individuals and property, are just a few examples of regulatory interventions in the European and extra-European luxury trade.The private legal sphere is no less interesting: contractual relations between individuals in this area, the regimes of pacts between parties, the value given to goods and merchandise in the identification of the price of obligations, are all aspects of fundamental importance for understanding the legal dynamics that have shaped European legal culture.

The objective of this conference is to produce a state of knowledge on the development of empirical legal research at the European level. First, it will trace the first elements of the development of these methods, highlight the main trends and elucidate the possible theoretical foundations. The conference will then map the use of empirical methods in the different legal disciplines across Europe before deepening this analysis in the field of environmental law.

Violent Turns: Sources, Interpretations, Responses
The aim of this international conference is to provide researchers with an interdisciplinary platform to investigate and debate the question of contemporary irruptions of political violence and to inquire into the different responses intended to counteract violence. When and why do individuals, groups, and societies come to believe that peaceful means and legal avenues of redress, including non-violent civil disobedience, are insufficient or improper to achieve a social or political goal and to view violent action as morally legitimate and necessary for change? Can one identify trends shaping recourse to violence by parts of the populace? What role does state violence play in the dialectic? When, if ever, is political violence legitimate? How can violence be averted?

L’ambition du colloque est notamment de croiser les regards de la doctrine et des praticiens afin de dresser un panorama complet des acteurs et d’examiner leurs apports normatifs et organiques respectifs, y compris politiques et pratiques. La lecture de ces apports permettra de comprendre les véritables dynamiques qui se dégagent autour de la gouvernance de la transition énergétique et climatique.

The Idea of Economic Constitution in Europe: Genealogy and Overview
The notion of “Economic Constitution” has now become a key concept not only in law, but also in other social sciences (economics, political philosophy, etc.). The 7th Journées internationales David-Constant therefore propose to retrace the somewhat turbulent history of the concept and to study its current relevance within the various (state and supranational) legal orders in Europe. Coinciding with the launch (in Open Access) of the edited volume The Idea of Economic Constitution in Europe. Genealogy and Overview (Brill), this interdisciplinary symposium (held in English and French with simultaneous translation) will gather the nearly thirty contributors to the volume, in order to extend the discussions covered in the latter. Beyond the global overview of the issues in positive and comparative law, the speakers will also question the theoretical and conceptual frameworks that structure the current debates in and across law, economy and politics.

History of “carabinieri”, gendarmeries and police with military status history
Italian Society of Military History, in charge to publish the journal Nuova Antologia Militare (NAM), offers the possibility to publish contributions dedicated to the history of “carabinieri”, gendarmeries and police forces with military status. The main fields of interest are the police activities like riot crowd control, public order, investigation activities, patrolling et cetera, but it is not limited to those activities. You could consider focusing your paper on the social role of the personnel, on the development of skills and so on. The call for paper is open to contributions on Police forces during war time with the exception of the role covered as combatant units.

Jurists and the Medieval State: Varieties and Development of a Symbiotic Relationship, 1000-1500
4th Workshop on Legal Culture
This workshop proposes to look at the evolution of the roles that jurists played in government, as the latter developed and became more complex in the period between ca. 1000 and 1500. Historians have long accepted that university trained jurists, both clerical and lay, were instrumental to the development of medieval government. The growth of the administrative apparatus of government and the expansion of its claims of authority and control on society combined with the thickening numbers of law graduates to broaden the scope of the service that jurists provided to rulers. By inviting participants to focus their analysis on a common set of questions (specified below), this workshop will attempt to bring out the stable as well as the dynamic aspects of that service.

For the second consecutive year, the CHSP (Centre d’histoire de sciences po) European History Seminar explores the social lives of Muslims in early modern and modern European societies. It fits in with the preliminary works of ESLAM (European Societies in the Light of Apolitical Muslims) and is open to established scholars, junior researchers and Ph.D. and master degree’s students in history and social sciences.

Questioning the Crime of Witchcraft
Definitions, Receptions and Realities (14th-16th Centuries)
In the last decades, the multiplications of works in the field of Witchcraft Studies made it possible to profoundly renew the approaches and the study designs of the repression of witchcraft in the late Middle Ages and in the beginning of the Early Modern Era. Consequently, research has substantially specified the methods and configurations (ideological, political and doctrinal) that contribute to the genesis of the “witch-hunt”. Research also uncovered that the repression of witchcraft could take a number of different forms depending on the contexts, the spaces studied, the sources and the aims they seem to pursue. It underlines the extreme plasticity of the accusation of witchcraft and the categories of such a crime. Hence, the conference aims to focus the discussions on three main areas: the definition of the crime of witchcraft, its different receptions and the question of its reality.

How are norms challenged by disabilities?
This 9th conference aims to discuss the construction of normality and, more broadly, the system of thought that structures our societies in which being “able” is the norm in the sense of both the most widespread and the most desirable situation. The aim of this critical perspective is therefore to highlight how our societies are structured in relation to the notion of the able individual. While the recent call to build inclusive societies would appear to herald a radical turning point, what is the reality? Have we truly finished with representations of disability that tend towards the negative, the defective or even the tragic? To what extend are the “heroized” figures of disability, omnipresent in the public space, perpetrating the representation of disability as a deviation from the norm?

#MariellePresente - Transnational Resistances
The Gender and Diversity Journal, a feminist and queer review from the northeastern region of Brazil, invites everyone to submit articles, essays, interviews, field journals, reports and other texts for the special issue entitled "#MariellePresente: Transnational Resistances". The texts must describe and analyze the transnational responses following the assassination of the Brazilian Marielle Franco. She was a black woman from the favela, political activist, feminist and lesbian. She was murdered at the corner of a street in Rio de Janeiro in March 2018. Given the political nature of her assassination, many actions denouncing the crime were organized around the world.

Financed by the European Commission, the Academic Network of Soft Law Research (SoLaR) aims at stimulating the debate between academics and practitioners on the national role of EU soft law. SoLaR asks whether and how non-binding EU instruments are used bynational administrations when implementing EU policies and bynational courts when ruling in cases falling within the scope ofapplication of EU law. The International Symposium on the History of Crime is a forum for international university students to explore the understanding of issues surrounding the history of crime. The annual symposium was created to bring together doctoral, masters, and undergraduate students as well as early career academics in a friendly academic environment that facilitates discussion around history of crime issues. This Third edition will be attended by students and academics from the USA, UK and France. The symposium is deliberately broad in reach and we make every effort to draw together wide and diverse topics in order that contributors feel encouraged to participate and present their research in-progress as well as engaging and informative short papers.

Prisons, Prisoners and Prison Records in Historical Perspective
The rise of the prison as an institution of mass incarceration for offenders has for long fascinated researchers. In part, this is due to the unusually detailed nature of most prison records. The wide availability of somewhat similar sources across diverse European and European-derived societies provides criminologists, social and economic historians, demographers and other social scientists with rich collections of personal information that have been analysed intensively since the 1970s. The increasing power of software and hardware and the accumulation of very large quantities of prison data, some of it linked to other sources, offers challenges and opportunities for researchers today. The workshop responds to the challenge of harnessing criminal justice records by bringing together scholars in different disciplines and countries to share information about their sources, methodologies of classification and analysis, and to reconceptualize research paradigms.

Epigenetics as an interdiscipline: between the social sciences and the life sciences
Following the spectacular rise of epigenetic research since the early 2000s, an increasing number of social science researchers call for it to form an “interdiscipline” at the crossroads of life science and social science. Central to their claim is the integration into life science inquiries of social experiences such as exposure to risk, nutritional habits, stress, prejudice, and stigma. Despite tangible scientific progress, significant funding programs, many epistemological, economic, social, or political issues in epigenetics remain to be studied by the social sciences. The aim of this special issue is to advance the social science knowledge of epigenetics and to address the consequences of epigenetics for the social sciences themselves.
