Gender Dynamics and Practices in Architecture, Urbanism and Landscape Architecture

In France, as in several other countries, the professions of architect, urban planner and landscape architect have crossed a historic threshold in terms of feminization. However, numerical parity does not mean men and women have equal professional opportunities: numerous demands of feminist associations remain unsatisfied. They note the persistence of many professional inequalities: in terms of income, in terms of financial control and job insecurity, in terms of visibility, and in terms of recognition. This call for papers aims to gather contributions for an assessment of the gains and limits of feminization and gender dynamics at work in the professional worlds of architecture, urban planning and landscape architecture in France, fifty years after the "massive" entry of women into architecture schools in 1968.

    Night and City

    3rd Urban Audiovisual Festival

Scientific audio-visual production, not very considered by many disciplines, finds in the UAF a privileged scenario, both for the presentation of works and for the evaluation of the audio-visual methods applied to the study of the urban. Likewise, the UAF invites its screens to unconventional productions, made with mobile devices or exploring other forms of production of moving images. The use of new techniques is another of the main objectives of the UAF, as it aims to make known the innovations made and their multiple applications to the study of contemporary cities. The UAF is an invitation to watch the cities. To join to a debate far beyond the screens.

Reloaded industrial heritage. New territories, changing cultures

    TICCIH conference 2021

    Urban music in Cameroon

Studies of content, code switching and transculturality

    Urban fears 16-21th century

The notion of "urban fears" is not new but can be reexamined, in a newly initiated approach of an "emotional" approach to the city, a study of the emotions of inhabitants. "Urban fears" will be defined as collective feelings of anxiety, in urban populations, about events occurring or likely to occur in the city where they live, and for a sufficient period of time not to be considered anecdotal. "Dangerous classes" of the lowlands, riots, but natural, climatic, environmental, epidemic, food disasters, irrational fears, rumours and urban legends will be the focus of our attention.

The lessons of Rome - 5th edition

Body, culture and identity in Lavapies, Madrid

From the individual to the collective

The objective of this Seminar is to stress the importance of a collaborative and participative way to understand through our senses. We want to explore connections between thinking and action in everyday city experiences, developing “in situ” actions. We consider that the knowledge of the space need space experiences. We aim to develop a collective, community exploration of the vital flow of the Lavapiés area in Madrid altering the classical relationship between artist, landscape and inhabitants. This exploration will allow the construction of an intangible map of audiovisual fragments, photo, phonographs, video art, performative actions. The direct experimentation of space helps us understand it, as well as "to perform it"; it helps us understand the aesthetic and emotional relationships we have with it. In order to get our objectives, urban artists, soundscape experts, theater groups, architects, philosopher, civil and social associations, citizens…will be invited.

Prison spaces in the Middle Ages: an interdisciplinary approach to the territories and materialities of medieval incarceration

While recent work has renewed our knowledge of medieval execution sites and of the internal layout of detention facilities, much remains to be done to understand the distribution of prison spaces and territories, in particular to shed light on the socio-spatial dynamics and logic of their establishment. These prison spaces evolved between the beginning and the extreme end of the Middle Ages, with prisons only multiplying from the 13th century onwards. These evolutions must be understood in close coordination with the evolutions of medieval justice and its spatial practices. Studies can be carried out at the scale of a building, a neighborhood, a city, a city, one or more regions.

    Thinking politics through waste

    American cities facing global changes

Interdisciplinary Journal of Papers on the Americas (RITA) nr. 13

Nowadays, the assessment of environmental changes worldwide is indisputable. Interdependent processes – such as global warming, the extinction of species, soil depletion and scarce energy resources – deeply alter the living conditions in our societies, from a material and symbolic point of view. These systemic transformations go well beyond the physical environment or climate change; they can be understood thanks to the concept of “global changes” that has become a main research topic in the fields of social and environmental sciences over the past thirty years. For its thirteenth issue, RITA will dedicate its section Thema to American cities facing global changes.

    Queerising the aesthetics

In 1990, Judith Butler published Gender Trouble; a book which takes from French Theory to create an other, the Queer Theory, which does not bother with anatomical or social destiny to put forward the performativity of gender and of sexe. Quickly translated in many languages, Gender Trouble will have a very noticeable impact on literary and movie studies, rapidly generating a heuristic acting out. Paradoxically, the same can not be said about aesthetic studies. Why? What are the oppositions? How can the queer way of thinking give back their inherent infinite “openness” to works of art?

Regions and Regionalism in Canada: constructing and managing political, social and cultural territory

In a contemporary age in which “think globally, act locally” has become a slogan, has the propensity to favour local initiatives resulted in shifting loyalties, has it modified the level at which citizens feel their strongest sense of belonging? Has it altered conceptions of citizenship? Has it had any impact on the locus of power? Which conceptual tools are most pertinent when trying to apprehend the social, cultural and political dimensions of regions and regionalism in Canada? How has the territorial notion of “region”, which comes out of the European tradition, been articulated to adapt to the Canadian context, especially with regard to the question of belonging (communities, nations, etc)?

    Music and globalisation

    Margins (XIth-XVIIth Century)

5th International Postgraduate Symposium of Transitions

From History to Philology, to Art History, to Codicology, and Linguistics, the notion of margin is omnipresent. This meaningful concept, both in its literal and figurative acceptions, has remained at the heart of critical thought for a long time, as scholars have sought to reflect on its particular potentialities whilst attempting to renew approaches to their own subjects of study. Participants, starting from their specific subjects and disciplines, are invited to reflect on the notion of margin, on the similar notions of limit and border, and on the place they hold in their own research.

    Urban renovation: what socio-spatial changes?

Apprehending the socio-spatial changes of urban renovation between discourse and representations, intentions and productions
