Conference, symposium - Africa
The Tangier Zone Statute Centenary
Bringing together scholars from both sides of the Mediterranean, this conference aims to renew interest in the International Zone of Tangier (1925–56). It will take place 100 years to the day after France, Spain, and the United Kingdom signed the Zone’s constitutive treaty, known as the “Tangier Zone Statute”. The agreement, which was later joined by Sweden, Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Italy, subjected Tangier to a special regime: although nominally an integral part of Morocco, the city and its surroundings were to a large extent subject to the joint administration of Western powers.

Social Scientist Approaches To Catholicism in Africa
There is abundance of literature on African Catholicism but it is unvenly distributed across disciplines in humanity and social sciences. Theology takes the lion's share followed by historical sciences. Overall, Catholicism in Africa has been neglected in the social sciences first in favour of African Independant Churches and, more recently, of Pentecostalism. This volume is interested in contributions which take a social scientist approach (based on empirical data) to any aspect of African Catholicism.

Tinabantu - Journal of Advanced Studies of African Society - Varia
The Centre for Advanced Studies of African Society (CASAS) was established in 1997 by its founding director, professor Kwesi Kwaa Prah, and incorporated to the University of the Western Cape (UWC) in 2018 within the University’s Department of Linguistics, Arts and Humanities Faculty. This call for papers comes within the resurrection of the journal, which will remain “Africanist in orientation” and a “forum for the consideration of diverse views, ideas and opinions reflecting differing philosophical and political dispositions, but committed to the maintenance of high intellectual standards and a recognition of the historical and cultural unity of Africa and its diaspora”.

“Comicalités” journal
As awareness of climate emergency and the sixth mass extinction has permeated the mainstream in recent years, there has been an explosion of environmentally themed comics, in the context of a broader trend in cultural productions and debates. This special issue invites considerations of comics’ ecopolitical potential.

Languages, literatures and peace building
Guaranteeing a peaceful climate in a restricted or relatively large space is a challenge, which is why it is almost impossible to list in an exhaustive manner the mechanisms likely to maintain harmony between humans and/or between Nations, as these means are sometimes beyond suspicion. At the same time, it would be tedious to want to list the factors likely to break the tranquility, the state of cohesion, and to generate misunderstandings, conflicts of various kinds and, finally, war. So, how can linguistics and linguistic dynamics (in all forms and manifestations, including literature) be at the origin of social/interhuman, inter-intra-community, inter-State, inter-religious tensions...? And, how could they resolve the said crises and conflict situations? Which linguistic dynamics emerge from these? This is the challenge of this project.

Research in language and religion has addressed various issues in the humanities and particularly in linguistics. However, the realities of the post-colonial terrain give rise to more complex forms of identity construction, the expression of diversity, and the dynamic tensions between languages and groups. The aim of this call is to study the relationship between language and religious belief in linguistics as well as in other fields of the humanities. It is also a question of questioning the theoretical and methodological aspects mobilized so far by the authors and to see how they allow us to account for the language phenomena that occur in religious situations, especially when they concern multicultural communities.

Metropolitan and suburban cities: Past, present and future
With the urban development that the world has witnessed since the late nineteenth century in parallel with the industrial development, and the increase in the movement of migration and displacement towards the major industrial cities around the world, the latter became crowded with population and expanded form contemporary metropolises, absorbing most of the jobs and major administrative, social and economic spaces. This caused a serious economic, social and development confusion for the countries experiencing the phenomenon, and a clear regional disparity between its depths and peripheries and between its cities and countryside. Its homogeneous balance was disturbed, and it turned into a sweeping polar cities because of the small cities and villages around it, with its acquired social and economic weight, thus affecting the local, regional and even the international geopolitical and geo-economics balances.
