Actors, practices and the circulation of scientific knowledge in Colonial Italy
Farestoria. Società e storia pubblica. Istituto storico della Resistenza e dell’età contemporanea di Pistoia
Over the past forty years, the relationship between science and colonial empires has been increasingly debated in the historical field. Following the perspectives opened up by international historiography, this issue of Farestoria aims to reflect on the processes of construction of scientific practices in the context of Italian colonial expansion. It intends to examine the construction of medical and scientific knowledge within a widened landscape, that of the circulation and reformulation of conceptions, practices and scientific objects between colonial and metropolitan spaces and across imperial borders. The issue will also give priority to reflection that considers longer-term perspectives, paying attention to the processes of formation and structuring of knowledge, practices and devices across liberal, fascist and post-war republican Italy.

Maïssa Bey a toujours conçu son activité comme un labeur pour faire sortir du silence les voix des victimes oubliées, tout comme de leurs bourreaux, de l’histoire de l’Algérie. Nous souhaitons organiser un moment de rencontre, de réflexion et d’échange autour de l’œuvre de Maïssa Bey, aussi dans une perspective de comparaison avec d'autres écrivain·e·s, en posant une simple question : comment arrive-t-elle à écrire les blancs de l’histoire de l’Algérie ? Notre but est de faire dialoguer des chercheurs et chercheuses qui s’inscrivent dans une pluralité d’approches en sciences humaines et sociales (historiens, littéraires, sociologues, anthropologues, psychanalystes, etc.).

The historical narration as a (de)legitimizing instrument is a Student Conference for graduate students and Ph.D. students who have worked and work on thesis and research projects in the fields of Archeology, Ancient, Medieval, Modern and Contemporary History. The Student Conference aims to encourage dialogue between students and doctoral students from different backgrounds within an inspiring and stimulating context in which to discuss their ongoing or concluded research.

Special Issue of Clio@Themis
This call for article proposals sets the stage for a special section of issue 25 (2023) of the journal Clio@Themis. It is open to all scholars—whatever their relationship to the academy—from all disciplines, who work on questions that bring law and gender into conversation. The coordinators of this special section aim to reinvigorate how these questions are studied, so we are especially eager to read work from junior scholars, who we encourage to submit.

Depuis la guerre froide le continent africain est le théâtre d’une instabilité politique accrue. Malgré le regain démocratique qui émerge au début des années 1990, des pratiques contestataires, plus ou moins unanimes, comme le renversement du pouvoir en place (Printemps arabe, Burkina‐Faso…), les soulèvements populaires face à la révision de la Constitution (République Démocratique du Congo), la contestation des élections (Burundi) questionnent aujourd’hui la viabilité du régime démocratique en Afrique. Si la notion d’instabilité politique renvoie à la propension d’effondrement gouvernemental, celle de conflit est déjà une conséquence de cette action. L’insécurité accompagne désormais la transition démocratique et les conflits se multiplient.

Italians in the Congo and Italians from the Congo
Images, writing, works of a global Italy (from 19th to the present day)
Le colloque international qui se déroulera à Metz (France) du 16 au 18 octobre 2014 aura pour but de procéder à l'inventaire et à l'analyse des œuvres littéraires et cinématographiques évoquant le Congo - ou plus généralement l'Afrique centrale -, réalisées par des auteurs italiens, à partir du XIXe siècle jusqu'à la fin des années 80. L'interférence entre productions culturelles et mouvances idéologiques, ainsi que la représentation, endogène ou exogène, de l'Italie au cours de la période sélectionnée, constituent les autres axes de recherche prioritairement définis. Parallèlement aux réflexions en cours consacrées à une Italie glocale, cette rencontre scientifique aura ainsi pour vocation d'interroger l'évolution de la relation Italie / Congo, considérée comme un prisme à travers lequel il est possible d'entrevoir plus largement les rapports entre le Belpaese et le monde extérieur.
