Open Data Citation for Social Sciences and Humanities

DARIAH's Humanities at Scale Winter School

The development of digital humanities during the past twenty years has increased the availability of research data in the humanities, in open access form, from a tremendous number of sources, in a broad heterogeneity of documents and formats. More generally, it is the very relation between research data and publication itself that modifies and constitutes an issue for the digital humanities, particularly through the question of data citation in the context of openness – how does one effectively cite data in the humanities for broad re-use and research impact?

It also aims to stimulate dialogue between historians of the different zones of occupation and so bring together hitherto almost entirely segregated historiographies.

Ve colloque international Human Sea - Marisk

New energies to forage at sea, deeper drillings further and further from the coast, increasingly bigger ships, these are the challenges that man must overcome to accomplish “blue growth”. There are economic opportunities to grab, but also new risks concerning safety and security, and marine environmental protection. These new challenges will be at the heart of the 5th edition of the Human Sea – Marisk symposium, a major event bringing together the best international experts and taking into account the latest scientific and technological advances in the maritime and port sector.

How to write a Data Management Plan

    Joint EUDAT-OpenAIRE webinar

As several research funders are carrying out (Open) Data Pilots, projects and researchers are increasingly required to deliver a Data Management Plan or DMP. The DMP is a useful instrument for researchers to reflect on and communicate about the way they will deal with their data. It prompts them to think about how they will generate, analyse and share data during their research project and afterwards.

Social finance, impact investing, and the financialization of the public interest

Social finance covers a wide range of practices aiming at providing private capital to social organizations, businesses and funds. The development of these practices is justified by promising ways to finance development and social policies in a period of austerity that sees limits to and reductions in public spending. Social finance is a heterogeneous field in the process of formation.

    The Idea of God

    A Philosophical Interrogation

Until recently, the death of God in Western society had seemed inexorable. However, a growing and marked interest in contemporary scholarship now strongly contests this verdict. Either concerned with the somewhat cursory conclusions of the New Atheists, the reductive verdicts of nominalism, or the fatalist undertones of naturalism, a number of authors from different philosophical perspectives are now proposing a new fate to the idea of God.

Women and political activism against Latin American dictatorships

    “Orda” journal

The main objective of this issue is to gather works of researchers from different countries, diverse fields of knowledge and several theoretical as well as methodological perspectives, so as to feed the debate on the issues in keeping with female participation during the dictatorships of Latin America. Contributions should tackle the subject of women activists but they may also consider in a less strict sense the link between women and activism. We wish to address the issue of activism in a broad sense to include a wide range of social movements in which women have played a significant role.

Digitization of Heritage Librarian Funds: Our Necessity and Obligation

Digitalizacija baštinskih knjižničarskih fondova: naša nužnost i obveza

A collaboration with the Institute for the Culture of Vojvodina Croats and the Saint Michael’s Franciscan Monastery in Subotica during the months of July and August of 2015 has resulted in a practicum for the senior students of the University Interdisciplinary Graduate Study Program in Librarianship. The students have opened a gateway to one of the richest heritage librarian funds, and the four weeks of their life with the books and socialization in a multicultural and multiethnic city, which is twinned with their hometown of Osijek, have produced valuable experiences, as well as a successfully initiated and professional processing of library materials. Established are the possibilities for an acquaintance with the valuable (monumental) library collections and the acquisition of a hands-on librarian habituation subsequent to a theoretical universitarian instruction, whereby a pathway has been paved for the next generations to become a part of this unique cultural initiative. By virtue of the prospective assets allocated by this international project, it could be possible to devise a follow-up to this endeavor. Thus, in addition to an academic knowledge, the students would repeatedly have an opportunity to be practically involved in the conservation, processing, and valorization of the heritage librarian funds.

The Price of Peace: Modernising the Ancien Régime?

    Europe 1815-1848

In many historiographic traditions, the so-called "Restoration" has been depicted as an awkward interval between the Napoleonic Wars and the age of nationalism. This international conference has the ambition of breaking down old myths and stereotypes about the ‘Restoration’ in order to think more broadly and openly about the key transitions and issues. The conference will revolve around the provocative historiographical issue of whether the post-Napoleonic order represented an attempt to reconcile the heritage of the Ancien Régime with a deeply transformed world. Topics explored by panels of invited experts from across Europe will include Rethinking the "Restoration", New departures in international relations, Constitutions vs. Charters, Rebirth of composite monarchies, Before and Beyond the Nation, Historicising the Ancien Régime?, New borders and old identities.

Art and the Environment in Britain 1700-today

Whether one thinks of environment as context, setting, climate change, green spaces or sounds, today’s epistemology invites us to rethink man’s relation to the external world to the extent that the “inside” and “outside” coalesce, nature and culture merge, man and animal are reconfigured. How have British artists responded to these shifting perceptions of the world around them, of this great swirling circle of life and non life in which they found – or imagined – themselves diversely positioned, for a long time at the centre, then in a more undefined place – at the margin even? How has art itself positioned itself in this newly defined environment?

Digital Humanities Centres: Experiences and Perspectives

Digital Humanities research always takes place within a specific institutional context, which is constituted by both science system and its societal environment.
