Collaborative practices: rethinking narratives and musealization processes
“Práticas da História. Journal on Theory, Historiography, and Uses of the Past”
Since the 1960s, different scientific fields have brought the collective construction of science to the center of their debates. In this context, the importance of different narratives, actors, and worldviews for scientific construction gains special attention. Public history, community archeology, and collaborative museology are some of the fields born out of this movement, and its scientific practices have intertwined in projects focused on political demands and social transformations. Aligned with the field of history, this dossier intends to question the intrinsic links between the constitution of hegemonic historical narratives, the construction of homeland histories in the emergence and consolidation of National States, and the emergence of museological institutions as places of construction and consolidation of the Authorized Discourses of Heritage.

Development archives: production, use and politicization
Revue internationale des études du développement n°256 (2024-3)
The first aim of this Special Issue is methodological: the renewed interest in development archives raises questions, particularly among young researchers, about how to identify, collect, and use them, and about their limits. The special issue will thus offer a set of methodological reference points to anyone wishing to use such archives. The second aim will be to lay the foundations for a more ambitious project to study development archives from a perspective at the crossroads of “connected history” and “global historical sociology”.

The public use of subordinate writings in the early modern and modern periods
We invite contributions dedicated to the dynamics of the re-signification of subaltern writings in public space in the early modern and modern period. Ordinary writings produced by subaltern actors (popular classes, men and women, childhood) in the transition from the private to the public sphere should therefore be investigated with particular attention to the spaces used, the practices adopted, the strategies of visibility (or obscuration) chosen, the appropriations by civil society, the policies of preservation of popular memory and the pedagogical- didactic use of writings.

« 101 Theory Not Found » - Jeux vidéo X animation
This conference aims to outline an interdisciplinary approach to video games based on the thoughts and methods of “animated cinema”, but also to lay the foundations for a study of animation in video games. Considering video games from the perspective of animation, and vice versa, raises questions that are both economic, technical, and aesthetic. These questions are likely to interest professionals from both industries as well as academic scholars. To what extent do video games integrate and engage with “animated cinema”? Conversely, do video games open up new possibilities for animation techniques? What are the specific modes of storytelling and reception landscapes that emerge from the intersection of animated cinema and video games? What markets does it define?

In the wake of Madeline Caviness's seminal article, what assessment can be made of the fertile links between the Middle Ages and feminism? In its wake, the next issue of Perspectives médiévales invites us to take a fresh look at the reciprocal contributions of medievalism and feminism, as part of an epistemological and historical reflection on the Middle Ages and the present. The aim of this issue is to explore contemporary feminisms by exploring the Middle Ages and their representations. In other words, in what way is the Middle Ages an object of investigation both for feminist thought and by feminist thought?

A Special Issue of “Práticas da História”
Political and social revolutions are events frequently studied by the discipline of History. However, contributions by historians to the study of the posthumous lives of these events are rarer. This call aims to elicit proposals for articles and essays that focus on the memorialistic trajectories of revolutions. Case studies, historical comparisons, or theory-based approaches may be proposed. The journal Práticas da História also encourages the submission of proposals for articles and essays that focus on how political discourse, commemorative politics, and historical staging have dealt and are dealing with past revolutions, as well as the discussion of issues such as the mobilization of examples, icons, or concepts of past revolutions by revolutionary action. The problem of the inscription (or not) of revolutions in the organics of the regimes that succeed them or, finally, the identification of the beginning/end of a revolution, may also be addressed.

Reimagining Annotation for Multimodal Cultural Heritage
Reimagining Annotation for Multimodal Cultural Heritage is an international conference that will be held in Rennes, France from 7th-9th February 2024. The conference looks to explore questions around digital annotation in the humanities and the GLAM sector (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums) across three primary axes: tools, methods and projects. We seek to discover the extent of digital tools for the navigation of multimodal document networks, the creation of data-driven interfaces and the implementation of close and / or distant reading techniques; the epistemological questions that these tools allow to emerge and how research in the humanities is changing; and projects that make use of these tools.

« Perspective » n° 2024-2
The journal Perspective : actualité en histoire de l'art will explore, in its 2024 – 2 issue, the thematic “extreme bodies”. Our aim is to shed light on the ways images participate in the creation of the body, the spread of a standard and the constraints applied to that body in order to achieve the standard, but also the ways images sometimes serve to subvert them. It is thus in terms of the standardised body, considered more as a model or goal to be attained than as the aurea mediocritas (Horace, Odes, II, X, 5), the incarnation of the middle ground remote from excesses, that we would like to address questions related to extreme bodies.

Práticas da História is an open-access, bi-annual online academic journal, and it is looking to publish original articles, bibliographical essays, interviews, and book reviews on the subject matters of historical theory, historiography, methodology, and the uses of the past. We encourage submissions in Portuguese, English, French, or Spanish. The journal attaches equal importance to research relating the practice of history with other domains of the humanities and to works debating history in the context of the social sciences. While we find ourselves in the disciplinary field of history, we do aspire to question the boundaries of the field. It is our goal to promote interdisciplinarity and multidisciplinarity.

In its sixteenth edition, the Conference will be devoted to highlighting the role of Women in medieval artistic creation. This role will be understood in the broadest possible way: from patronage to creation and reception, as a channel for power strategies, a transmitter of science or a generator of specific iconographic types, regardless of their active or passive role in all this creative dynamic. Women and Gender will serve as the priority vectors to articulate the scientific content of Conference sessions.
