Abstract

L’université du Luxembourg recrute un·e doctorant·e dans le domaine de recherche « Musique et genre du XIXe au XXIe siècle ». La recherche devra porter sur le Luxembourg dans un contexte transnational ou une perspective comparative. Le choix du sujet, du genre musical et du cadre temporel appartient à la candidate / au candidat. Une approche interdisciplinaire est encouragée. Ce sera un projet de recherche individuel, mais faisant partie d'un groupe de recherche interdisciplinaire plus large.

The Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences (FHSE) brings together expertise from the humanities, linguistics, cognitive sciences, social and educational sciences. People from across 20 disciplines are working within the Faculty. Along with the disciplinary approach a very ambitious interdisciplinary research culture has been developed.

The faculty’s research and teaching focuses on social, economic, political and educational issues with the common goal of contributing to an inclusive, open and resourceful society. The FHSE offers four Bachelor and 15 Master degrees and a doctoral school providing students with the necessary knowledge and high-qualified skills to succeed in their future career.

Your Role

The doctoral candidate will be a member of the Department of Humanities / Institute of History. S/he will work under the supervision of Associate Prof. Dr Sonja Kmec and participate in the project “Musik und Gender in Luxemburg”.

Your tasks

  • Research in the field of Music and Gender in Luxembourg (in a transnational context)
  • Communicating with external partners
  • Series of publications (in peer-reviewed journals and accepted papers resulting in a cumulative dissertation OR a PhD thesis (with presentations at scientific conferences)
  • Enrolment in the Doctoral School in Humanities and Social Sciences

What we expect from you…

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in History, Gender Studies, Musicology, Cultural Anthropology, Cultural Geography or a related field
  • Two-page proposal of a PhD project in the field of Music and Gender (19th to 21st century) that can be applied to Luxembourg (in a comparative or transnational perspective)
  • Language skills: German, French and English. Competencies in Luxembourgish are considered an advantage.
  • Last but not least, enthusiasm about, high commitment for, and enjoyment of academic research

The yearly gross salary for every PhD at the UL is EUR 38.028,96 (full time)
