Abstract

The purpose of this conference is to determine the contribution of humor in the resilience of our contemporary societies. It is then a question of crossing the studies of several specialists in the multifaceted challenges of humor as a factor in the dedramatization of our contemporaneities.

Argument

Humor is a polysemic and transdisciplinary concept whose definitions fluctuate according to eras, theorists and thought schools. In humorous art, the speaker, against a background of humor, produces a speech on a serious situation in order to share with the accomplice recipient in the moment of the game, the offbeat image of a situation or of society (the target) to which they belong. For the humorous game to work properly, the recipient must be in a posture of an accomplice, not of the victim (DAO and Ettien, 2022). Thus, humor is developed on the basis of a "communication contract" (Charaudeau and Maingueneau, 2002, p.138) between the humorist subject, the recipient and the target. This is why Patrick Charaudeau (2006, p.22) affirms that "what is considered by some as humor can be considered by others as a nasty mockery or an insult". The humorous expression, under its various inspirations, appears as an important lever of resilience, based on the dedramatization that Marc Kazimivrowski (2006, p. 22) defines as "the trivialization of the deja vu, [the fact of], normal, behavior, attitude, an opinion because they are frequent, usual. In other words, dedramatization consists in transforming a serious or grave situation into a banal fact that becomes part of everyday life and 'puts on stage, in the public space, actors who express themselves in the name of institutions and collective logic likely to federate or engage the singular subjects of sociability' (Essé, 2022, p.106). Humor and de-dramatization are revealed as factors that facilitate the acceptance of the dramas that occur in our societies plagued by numerous crises (Wars of Religion, First and Second World War and recently the health crisis linked to COVID). These crises and many others animate our contemporaneity which involves multiple slopes and plural definitions. It is both the character of what is contemporary but also makes it possible to qualify what characterizes contemporary society. From a historical point of view, the contemporary period is the one that begins with the beginning of the French Revolution from 1789 to today. The comic, through humor, then becomes this vector penetrating all the subjects (even the most tolling) with a casualness which hunts horror and soothes the drama in all strata of society as well as in the collective memory.

The company is faced with itself and the authors-actors of events or other unfortunate situations laugh at their own turpitudes and ignominies. So there is a real catharsis through humor. According to Andrea Samson (SD) "crisis situations like the one we live [daily] are often accompanied by a wave of humorous expressions. The humor has this wonderful power to regulate our emotions ”. It is transformer and curative and has different functions, including that of changing our perspective on a certain event. It can completely transform something scary into a fact of lower importance. Humor is therefore an emotional management strategy (such as anxiety, etc.). It helps to step back without denying the problem, and this is particularly important at the moment "Andrea Samson (SD). The purpose of this conference is to determine the contribution of humor in the resilience of our contemporary societies. It is then a question of crossing the studies of several specialists in the multifaceted challenges of humor as a factor in the dedramatization of our contemporaneities. The non-exhaustive reflection axes are as follows:

  • Axis 1: Humor in contemporary society : manifestations and perceptions
  • Axis 2: Humor in crisis
  • Axis 3: The humorous in literary, filmic productions and the arts of the show
  • Axis 4: Humor and axiological sense
  • Axis 5: Humor and socio-anthropological approach
  • Axis 6: Humour and politicians
