We invite you to participate in a Symposium on doctoral supervision. The aim will be to foster the development of a scientific community that takes doctoral supervision practices as a research object.

Argument
We invite you to participate in a Symposium on doctoral supervision, on Friday November 17 from 2 to 5 p.m. in Strasbourg. The event will take place following the third Workshop on Doctoral Supervision (WED, description below). The aim will be to foster the development of a scientific community that takes doctoral supervision practices as a research object.
The afternoon will be structured around 2 presentations by colleagues leading research projects on doctoral supervision, followed by discussions between the participants, in English and in French.
- a review of the literature on the improvement of doctoral supervision,
- the policies for doctoral supervision in French higher education and research institutions.
On November 16 and 17, 2023, the third edition of the Workshop on Doctoral Supervision (WED) will take place in Strasbourg, organized by Adoc Mètis, ANDès, the Confederation of Young Researchers and the National Network of Doctoral Colleges, under the patronage of the French Ministry for Higher Education and Research.The WED aims to build, by the doctoral community in France, the tools and recommendations it needs to evolve and adapt to its current challenges. The idea, during three half-days, is to bring together the French actors and actresses of the doctorate (directors of doctoral colleges and doctoral schools, supervisors, administrative staff in charge of the doctorate, associations of young researchers, university presidencies) in order to reflect on the current challenges of the doctorate and to propose solutions. At the end of the event, all the conclusions and proposals will be freely accessible online (you can find the collections of recommendations from the two previous editions on https://w-e-d.info). Participation will be free for all participants. The website indicated also presents the themes and the provisional schedule for the 2023 edition.
Like the two previous editions in 2016 and 2018, the WED 2023 will mainly be made up of a series of workshops, from which concrete and realistic proposals should emerge (tools for supervisors, recommendations for institutions, guides for schools and doctoral colleges). Before launching the participants into workshops on the subject, we are planning 3 plenary interventions on the three main aspects that will be addressed this year: a scientific conference on the mental well-being of doctoral students, a conference-debate on the future of the doctorate in Europe, and a conference on the environmental ethics of research.
