Abstract

The last several decades have witnessed that memory of heritage has been on top of scientific research, reflection and interpretation and has marked increase in research in relation to cultural heritage, memory and change, and to transformation within the field of heritage studies. It is considered to be the heritage of tangible and intangible heritage assets of a group or society that is inherited from past generations, which has been reconstructed in present to make it accessible and beneficial to new generations. Therefore, memory of heritage is an interdisciplinary instrument that plays a significant role in shaping a sense of identity and a source of inspiration for creativity and innovation, but it is also can be a reason of exclusion, or even hostage to political conflicts and ideological debates.

Argument

Perhaps, the most dangerous thing is that this memory has not yet been taken the proper attention in the era of technology, which led to have enormously widened the gap of our relationship with heritage.

Nowadays, all knowledge resources are in form of text, databases, static or animated images, sound, graphics, programs, websites, as well as human expressions, whether cultural, scientific, artistic, or administrative, or includes technical, legal, medical or other types of information are being rapidly generated in digital formats, or may be converted into a digital format of existing analog resources. These resources are considered of high importance and added value that reflects heritage which must be protected and preserved for present and future generations. However, this digital and virtual memory is vulnerable to potential threats and risks which lead it to diminish and require precise management and maintenance.

As a result, in order to face the increase in globalization, the question of memory of heritage is currently being on top of the discussion as a force that ensures the preservation of cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue. Therefore, the reliable management of development of memory of the heritage requires an approach that emphasizes the principle of sustainability, and determines the balance of its usefulness in terms of media, economics and social and its preservation as a threatened asset by numerous factors. For this reason, in the midst of current challenges, we are called upon to review and update our representations of heritage memory, for the purpose of acquaintance, preserving meaning, and working for the future.

The objective of this forum is focusing on memory and heritage sciences, as an interdisciplinary field that embraces humanities, social, experimental and digital sciences as well as engineering which contributes to its definition, understanding, preservation and accessibility in print or non-print or digital format as follow:
