Ce colloque tente de mettre en lumière de nouvelles lectures relatives au phénomène migratoire en Afrique, ses enjeux économique, socioculturel et politique en s’appuyant sur l'analyse des médias, la littérature, les documents historiques, le cinéma…. L’objectif est d’interroger la question migratoire dans toute sa complexité, ainsi que la vulnérabilité de la personne migrante, eu égard à sa stigmatisation et aux différentes visions dévalorisantes et/ou valorisantes à son sujet, des discours et des images qui demeurent polémiques et pourraient engendrer des dérapages et des glissements sémantiques, constituant ainsi l’objet d’étude de chercheurs appartenant à différents champs disciplinaires.

Argument

Human history has unfolded over time and circumstances. Humans, by their nomadic nature, have traversed the Earth for various reasons and expectations, from Africa to Europe, through Asia, and later on, the Americas.

Migration has become a significant international public policy issue, given the numerous human losses recorded worldwide in recent years, especially in the Mediterranean Sea.

In recent years, this phenomenon has taken on considerable proportions for various reasons. Firstly, South-North migration, constituting 30% of global migration flows, and South-South migration due to certain restrictive access laws adopted by Northern countries.

Our conference focuses on human mobility in Africa and its various types, aspects, forms, and conditions.

It is also an opportunity to address migration from Africa to other continents and within Africa. The conference aims to shed light on new readings related to the migratory phenomenon in Africa, its economic, sociocultural, and political challenges, drawing on media, literature, historical documents, cinema, etc. The objective is to explore the migratory question in all its complexity, as well as the vulnerability of the migrant, considering their stigmatization (stereotypes) and various devaluing or valuing visions in discourses and images that remain controversial and could lead to semantic shifts. This constitutes the subject of study for researchers from different disciplines.

Long overlooked, forgotten in global discussions, migration is now a current theme and a global issue (Catherine Wihtol de Wenden, 2017). This leads us to question how the migratory issue is treated: What are the representations of migrants, and what are the different reception gaps within the Mediterranean basin? (Pascal Laborderie, Hanane El Bachir (2020)). What is the impact of discourses around migration on the collective unconscious? How do media texts and images (Bonvoisin Daniel, 2018) give a voice to the figure of the exile and contemporary migratory conditions? (Nouss Alexis, 2015). In terms of artistic creation, to what extent do certain mediums contribute to constructing multiple imaginaries around the migratory phenomenon?

The conference will revolve around the following themes:

  • Migration: History and current state
  • Migration, emigration, immigration: evolution of concepts
  • Migration between identity, otherness, and interculturality
  • Migration and gender
  • Migration and the media space: between representation and reception gaps
  • Migration and its representations in literature, cinema, theater, comics

Methodologically, the following approaches will be favored: textual analysis, reception aesthetics, semiotics of text and image, discourse analysis, etc.
