While the philosophical reception of German Idealism and Early Romanticism has been the subject of a number of studies, research so far has given little attention to the question of its knowledge and use by artists. The aim of the conference is to open up a space for interdisciplinary dialogue, informed by case studies, on the role that the discovery of Classical German Philosophy has played in European and American visual arts, from the early nineteenth century to the present day.

Présentation

Alors que la réception philosophique de l’idéalisme et du premier romantisme allemands a fait l’objet d’un certain nombre d’études, la recherche s’est encore peu emparée de leur connaissance et de leurs usages chez les artistes. L’ambition du colloque est d’ouvrir un espace de dialogue interdisciplinaire, nourri par des études de cas, sur le rôle joué par la découverte de la philosophie allemande classique dans les arts visuels européens et américains, du début du XIX^e siècle jusqu’à nos jours.
