The Swiss Centre for Islam and Society (SCIS) at the University of Fribourg/Switzerland is offering a 4-year position starting 1 January 2025 as a Postdoctoral Researcher (80 %) for the project ‘Participation in Islamic-social-ethical reflections’. This project is part of the interdisciplinary research ‘Practices of Social Participation and Islamic Social Ethics (PSOPIS)’ funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) (Head: Prof Dr Hansjörg Schmid).
In your project, you will deal with contemporary Muslim positions on social participation (civil society, citizenship, common good) and introduce these into an interdisciplinary discourse. In doing so, you will contribute to the systematisation of social participation as a guiding principle of Islamic social ethics. You will produce various publications and participate in joint research activities of the project team. The project involves collaborations with project partners from different disciplines in Denmark, Germany and Switzerland.
The Swiss Centre for Islam and Society (SCIS) is a competence centre for questions on Islam in Switzerland with a focus on Islamic-theological self-reflection. The SCIS offers a dynamic research environment in an interdisciplinary and multilingual team with international research perspectives. In addition, SZIG works together with various state and civil society organisations. This means that working at SZIG also provides insights into public relations work, networking and the area of further education and services. The conditions of employment are based on the requirements of the SNSF.
The University of Fribourg is a bilingual university with around 10,000 students. It is characterised by an international environment and attractive working conditions.
