Séminaire TechnicoTop
Published on Friday, September 27, 2024
Abstract
TechnicoTop is a matter of current events. Its purpose is to present and get to know both experts in their respective fields within the scientific sectors and emerging methods and techniques applied to the scientific world, all working tools actually needed to better develop research as a whole. It aims to break down barriers between disciplines in order to optimise both primary resource and research results to be used and exploited.

Presentation
TechnicoTop is a matter of current events. Its purpose is to present and get to know both experts in their respective fields within the scientific sectors and emerging methods and techniques applied to the scientific world, all working tools actually needed to better develop research as a whole. It aims to break down barriers between disciplines in order to optimise both primary resource and research results to be used and exploited.
Based on monthly 2-hour sessions, alternating theoretical presentations with more practical interventions: feedback, hands-on workshops, visits to specific laboratories,it is meant to be open and ever changing, thanks to a will intent attitude that relies on a permanent watch on new approach and technologies in Digital Humanities.
the organisation is ensured by Agnès Charpentier, Fabienne Dugast, Julie Masquelier Loorius, Elisabetta Neri (Umr 8167 Orient & Méditerranée) and open to young researchers (masters, PhD students) as well as professionals taking part in archaeological or documentary operations, whatever the place, mainland or abroad. It can be taken as part of a doctoral course and be validated.
Today’s research in the field of history & archaeology improves both interdisciplinary and new technologies. Various training courses are available to users in various specialities and even more in the generic use of specific software (photography, CAD, databases, GIS, etc.), but there is no option of having an overall account of what kind of methods and techniques may be currently adapted to our needs, nor of helping us choosing a software or a working tool rather than another that would be more suitable under such conditions of study. What would provide archaeometry, geophysics, geomorphology or geomatics analysis to our field data, or even specific functions of a software or an apparatus such as a camera – to work on CAD, or in data processing, and even more on web platforms, as a direct response to our institutions about Open Science and Creative Commons.
The topics covered will involve Digital Imaging (aerial photograph, topography, photogrammetry system, augmented reality), building archaeology, artefacts archaeometry (from know-how to preservation), digital resource optimisation (archive management, databases, geomatics, GIS, WebGIS) as well as participative science – Open Science, Creative Commons – and valorisation (film, exhibition, cultural events and mediations).
The sessions will take place (unless stated otherwise) on the first Friday of each month, starting from October 7, 2024. The first 3 will focus on two topics of archeometry: stone and metals.
