Abstract

The Haitian Journal of Law and Society (HJLS) calls for contributions to its inaugural issue, scheduled for July 2025. This bilingual (French/English) scientific journal publishes peer-reviewed articles on interactions between law and society. Topics include human rights, environmental law, constitutional law, sociology and philosophy of law, among others. A Haitian perspective is appreciated.

Presentation

The Haitian Journal of Law and Society (HJLS) is a generalist scientific journal that publishes articles in English and French. It welcomes contributions from professors, researchers, doctoral candidates, and practitioners from around the world. The HJLS is dedicated to innovative research in the fields of legal studies, exploring the interactions between law and society. All articles undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review process.

The HJLS invites researchers and practitioners at all stages of their careers to submit article proposals for its inaugural issue, to be published in July 2025.

Themes

Proposals may cover any subject related to the main areas of the Journal:

  • Human Rights and Gender Studies
  • Environmental Law
  • Criminal Sciences and Criminology
  • Constitutional Law
  • Issues in International Economic Law
  • Sociology of Law
  • Philosophy of Law
  • Anthropology of Law
  • Literature and Law
  • Cultural and Post/Decolonial Studies

Special attention will be given to proposals incorporating a Haitian perspective.

Submission Process and Timeline

  • December 15, 2024: Deadline for abstract submission.

Authors are invited to submit an abstract of 250 to 300 words, in French or English, through this online form: https://soumissions.charesso.org/rhds-01. The abstract should clearly present the research objective, the methodology employed, and the main conclusions or arguments.

  • December 30, 2024: Notification of acceptance to preselected authors.

The editorial committee will review the abstracts and inform authors whose proposals have been selected for development into full articles.

  • March 15, 2025: Deadline for full article submission.

Authors whose abstracts have been accepted must submit their full article by this date. The preferred length is 8,000 to 10,000 words, including footnotes, abstract, title, appendices, and bibliography. Authors are requested to strictly follow the writing guidelines that will be provided.

  • July 2025: Publication of the Inaugural Issue

After the evaluation and revision process, the selected articles will be published in the inaugural issue of the HJLS, marking the launch of this new scientific journal.

Evaluation Procedures

Abstract Evaluation

Abstracts will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Relevance to the journal's themes
  • Originality of the research question
  • Clarity of the proposed methodology
  • Potential contribution to the field
  • Quality of writing

Full Article Evaluation

Full articles will undergo a double-blind review process by two experts in the field. Evaluation criteria include:

  • Originality and relevance of the research
  • Methodological rigor
  • Quality of argumentation and analysis
  • Contribution to the advancement of knowledge in the field
  • Clarity and structure of the presentation
  • Compliance with academic and ethical standards
  • Quality of writing and style

The evaluation process will proceed as follows:

  1. Initial review by the editorial committee to verify alignment with the journal's themes and basic standards.
  2. Submission to external reviewers for double-blind evaluation.
  3. Compilation of evaluation reports and editorial decision (acceptance, minor revision, major revision, or rejection).
  4. Communication of the decision to authors with detailed reviewers' comments.
  5. For articles requiring revisions, a deadline will be set for the submission of the revised version.
  6. Final verification of revisions by the editorial committee before final acceptance.

Authors will receive detailed feedback and may be invited to revise their articles based on the reviewers' recommendations. The final decision to publish rests with the editorial committee of the HJLS.
